Q: I want to 'sync' (I don't want to 'stream') to my ATV Gen 1 with the new iTunes. How can I get that to work?

I use my old ATV1 as a 'stand alone' storage for movies, music and photos, connected to TV by HDMI and to home theatre by toslink. I have a new Mac Mini as primary storage from which I used to sync. these. Now I can no longer do so. This is really annoying, why is it so hard?? Any ideas? Is Firecore the way to go? Should I just junk it and go with a Sonos?

Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

Hey Apple, other people are having this issue too. Why is ATV1 syncing no longer allowed?

It is allowed, mine works without any issues.

Have you tried restarting the router, disconnecting and reconnecting the library or any other troubleshooting steps.

Winston, thanks. Because of your certainty that syncing IS allowed, I re-tried all the disconnecting and re-connecting (which I had already done, but perhaps in different orders, I can't remember) and yes, now it is syncing. Its been going 18 hours so far, so I haven't been able to test it, but so far so good. Cheers mate!

OK, so in fact this 'syncing' IS rubbish. It took 4 days to wirelessly sync, and 30 seconds to delete it all again when I tried to get a 'new' sync of a downloaded TV series. So now iTunes is trying to start from the beginning - I'm facing another 4 days! No way. Do you know if there is any way that I can hack the USB and download directly? Its a unit well out of warranty, and I can tell it is still a useful hardware device, but iTunes 11 is the bollocks.

If it's taking that long to sync, you have some sort of network problem, either it's too far away, you are experiencing interference or your network settings and or security settings are causing a problem.
