Q: Insecure "startupitems"

Anyone able to assist?

I've tried to resolve the "Insecure Startup Itme disabled" message using a pervious supprt discussion, but I can't get passed the message telling me "Stratupitems can't be modified or deleted  because it's required by Mac OS X" despite my enabling the "root" user.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

    DO NOT REMOVE /Library/StartupItems

DO NOT REMOVE any standard system files or directories unless you a) have a very good tested backup, and b) you are prepared to disable your system so that you will need that good backup!

If you have any entries in /Library/StartupItems, you should review them to see if they can be removed.

I have a Lion system, and my /Library/StartupItems directory is empty.  However, it is possbile that a 3rd party app you installed has added a /Library/StartupItems entry.

If you need that 3rd party app, then leave that entry alone.  If you do not need that app, consider 1st using the 3rd party app's uninstaller (some of them have uninstallers when they go around dropping things into system directories).  If the 3rd party app does not have an uninstaller, then you could try removing just their files from /Library/StartupItems.

But again, I stress DO NOT go around deleting things that Mac OS X installs unless you are prepared to have a disabled Mac and are prepared to deal with that situation.
