I was having trouble burning a iDVD disk, so i made a disk image of my movie. How do i burn the image to a dvd so it will play as a movie in my dvd player?

Not possible. You need to create the video DVD in iDVD to obtain the nexessary compression to the standard DVD format of mpeg2, otherwise it will not play anywhere.

Unless of course you used iDVD to create the disk image, then you are good to go. Use Disk Utility to burn it.

    What problems were you having?

    Hello Klaus,

I just picked up your post to cowhide, and you might be able to answer a question? I create movies using iMovie, and drop them into iDVD (as opposed to going to iDVD through iMovie) to maximise quality. I'm not having any problems with this, but is a disk image made via iDVD a good way to create a fixed archive you can burn future copies from for use in a DVD player to watch on TV if you need to? I'm looking for a method that uses less space than storing all the iMovie footage and project, the exported QuickTime movie and the iDVD file.

I don't know much about disk images, so I've no idea if my reasoning is sound on this. Storage space is getting a little tight, hence my question.

    Thanks.

Yes, is the answer to your question if you are using iDVD. Alternatively save as a TS Folder if you are using Toast.

    Hello Klaus,

Thanks for the ultra-fast answer! I can use either. I assume the disk image has the theme I chose in iDVD as part of the file, and I assume if I just drop the TS file into toast it will burn a disc that looks just like the original?

If I go the iDVD route, it asks for a theme up front - so I'm not quite sure how to proceed with that one?

    Yes!

Sorry, my bad. At the time of posting a higher power was instructing me to lay the table for dinner.... You would think that after 40 years she could do it herself..., sorry I digress!

You are right about iDVD. A TS Folder should be burnt either via Toast or via Disk Utility, but I always use Toast for burning.

    Thank you Klaus,

I'll try a test project, but I understand the instructions perfectly, and have seen the option in iDVD to make a TS file, so I should be ok.

Thanks for your help, hope it helped Cowhide too.
