Q: How to change iCloud email address?

I entered a test address when setting up iCloud, but now cannot find out how to change this to the email I would like with the @me.com ending. Any ideas?

I found a solution that trumps everything. I went online signed into my Apple ID at the Apple Store. From here it will take you directly to the email associated with all purchases. Down at the bottom are the ME account, if you have one and your iCloud account. There is an option to delete these accounts and everything associated with them. This is accross the board so it affects your devices and mail. You can then go in and create a new account.

Were you still able to set up an apple email account?  I have tried all the emails, and for me, apple is the best. I do not want to lose an apple email account, I just want to change the name on it.  Please answer, this is really important to me.  The name on my account is my former husband and I really want it off.  Apple keeps saying you cannot change a .me account.

.me is no longer supported although existing accounts are grandfathered in.

But you can't update a .me account.

crazy_ivan, I tried that, but my troublesome iCloud address was not shown on my apple ID account.  I am not going to spend any more time on this.  I gather Apple support will not change the misspelt address, so I have created an alias, and will live with it.

Crazy Ivan, I tried what you said. On my screen, I do not see an option to delete the account. Is that because it is a .mac account???  It is crazy that people have to live with misspellings, with former husband's names, nicknames that were put in when they were younger, etc etc.  Many people want to make this change, and I do not understand why it cannot be done.  (if you have a .me or .mac account from a long time ago)

I have called Apple twice about this.

Some folks do not have the same permissions as you Crazy_Ivan and they will have to call Apple Support. In my case, since I am not a Mac user, my original ID was tied up since I registered for iTunes. I called support and I was told that any Apple alias was tied to the parent email and it was almost impossible to change. I gave up since then. All you have to do is stop using your email address and soon it will be filled with spam and forgotten....

Yes, Esteban,  here is the serious problem with us at this forum trying to help each other.  We do not have the same permissions.  When you think about it, the people at Applecare must have a very hard time as well.  One guy told me he still had not figured out how to do something, and he works for Apple.

I finally understood this when I was talking to just a simple website that my recreation and park department has set up. The helper gal would say "now look at your screen, where does it say "add"" But my screen did not say "add".  See, I had signed up for the website long before she came to work there, and it had been changed many times.  Finally, we figured it out.

So, with something as complex as Apple, well, it is well nigh impossible.  I almost feel like I would have to buy a new computer with a new Apple id and a new Apple email.  I guess that would be the only way to change it.

    It really is crazy.

This worked perfectly for me, thanks Matt!  As soon as I deleted it, I went back into icloud and it let me sign in with a new email.  I didn't delete the icloud data off my phone, just the account, so when I entered a new email, it asked if I wanted to merge the icloud data with the new account- I said yes and it was good to go!

Yes, from iphone go to setting -> icould at the bottom "delete account".

A different solution, that work for me is to create an other email @icloud, I seems to remember that apple allow you to create 3 different email alias(go to icloud.com -> mail -> right-top preference -> account ). Once done from iphone go to setting -> icloud -> account, under Advanced tap mail and then you can choose which address to use to sent email.

I have this same problem.  Where did the me.com account come from?  It keeps asking for my password. I have no idea...since I didn't set this up.  Can you help me remove this me.com account as the "alternate" email in iCloud?
