Oh and now my 3rd gen iPad is doing it as well. Thanks for NOT fixing the problem, Apple!

I've had this issue on my last few IPhones. The screen dims and will only light up when I touch the brightness slider.

It first cropped up on my 4S and I asked for a replacement. Another two 4S replacements later and it was still a problem. And now it's happening on my brand new 5. So I'd say it's a IOS 6 software bug that I hope Apple will address soon.

This is certainly a software issue. I have never had this problem on my 4S until I did the latest update. Also did the update on my Ipad, it has the dimming issue as well. I also hope that apple with fix this ASAP.

I do have the same problem, but it became when I upgrade my iPhone 4S to IOS 6, if any of you guys know some solution, please let us know.

    Hi,

It seems to be linked with Siri - I've now turned off Siri and it hasn't happened since. Hopefully the next update will sort this.

Same problem as everybody else has indicated above. I do have the OtterBox case, but I'm not sure that that's part of the problem. What's really frustrating is when you're using Google maps as your GPS device... while driving down the road, the map dims to almost black and you repeatedly have to reach for the phone to turn the brightness back up manually! Need a solution ASAP.

Well don't hold your breath for a solution to this problem. I called Apple and FINALLY talked to someone about this issue. They said no one had complained about having this problem. They thought it was something wrong with my phone and wanted me to reset to factory settings then restore it. OMG I was in the middle of work and could not take the time for that. I told them it was from the update as my IPad was doing the same thing, but the didn't seem to believe me. "(

Yes, Apple told me to reset my iphone too. Went through three Iphone 4S's and it's

now happening on my brand new Iphone 5. Chances

of it being hardware near zero, I'd say. Hopefully

they'll start to pay attention to user complaints.

Got the same issue here with my iPhone 5. Each time Apple release new ios update it brings some new bug wit it:) Is that so hard to check everything before?

My screen dims so often now, I think I am getting used to it. "/

I have the same problem.  iPhone 4S, IOS 6.1.3  A quick Google search seems to indicate that this is a fairly common issue.

Similar if not the same problem.  I have a 16 gig 4S, running iOS 6.1.3.  The screen will randomly dim a couple of times a day, usually when using Siri.  I do not have to go back into the brightness settings to fix it, just have to cycle the power button on the top of the phone usually and the regular screen brightness that I have it set to will come back.  Not a major annoyance yet because it does not happen frequently at all, but I had noticed it to the point where I went searching for solutions online.  I have turned off the Siri "raise to speak" feature, will see if that helps.  Can others confirm that this is directly related to Siri?  If so I might try turning it off - don't really use her all that frequently anyway.

    Thanks,

    -John

It happens to me when any time it wants. I have not attached the problem to siri at all. Happens when using the phone mostly and texting too. No reason I can figure out.

For me, it only occurs when attempting to unlock my phone. It can happen regardless of which physical key is pressed (the sleep or home buttons). However, if I just press the sleep button, and press it again, the phone usually shows the unlock screen at normal brightness.

I am also not using Auto Brightness.
