Having the same problem - no airplay icon on Windows 8 laptop running iTunes 11. Just talked to a guy at the Apple "Genius" bar about this. He told me that this is a known issue and doesn't know of a fix. Said that we have to wait for an iTunes patch in some forthcoming (unknown date) update.

I've had it working on my Windows 8 PC in the past, but when I moved over to a new PC, I ran into the same problem, and on top of that, my iPhone and iPad can no longer connect to my PC through Home Sharing anymore. Either the library doesn't show up or it has an error message when connecting.

Did you find a fix yet? I recently purchased a new computer with Windows 8 and after working for few weeks, the Airplay icon is now just gone. I can't find any information about this.

Just got the iTunes update on my Windows 8 PC, but still no AirPlay button. All my Macs and my Windows 7 netbook can access Airport Express and stream music from iTunes to my receiver, but not the Windows 8 PC. Also, the Windows 8 PC can't see any Bonjour printers, but the Windows 7 netbook can, so no printing via Airport Extreme. Guess I shoulda bought a Mac mini instead of the HP.

Here is what you need to do that worked for me:
Disable the IPv6 protocol under your ethernet settings:
1 find your network connection on the bottom right of your screen (Small ehternet cable and pc icon)
2 Right click on the icon
3 Click "NETWORK AND SHARING CENTER" section
4 Choose your active network connection, If it is wireless or wired
5 Click on the properties button
6 UnCHECK internet protocol version 6(TCP/IPv6), then click OK.
7 Click "CLOSE"
8 Restart your computer
9 Start iTunes and try to use the Home Sharing feature again.
I believe this will help
