The notes on the update page now says you shouldn't download the update if you are an existing iOS user as there is a problem with it.  Doesn't help you and I, does it?

Remember, the Kindle app is Amazon's, so if they messed up, it's really their problem and not Apple's. And I'm not even going to open up my Kindle app, after reading this. I do not want to look for all the books that I've purchased again, download them, and find where I was at.

And I'm too far into the Kindle ecosystem to switch to iBooks.

It is definitely Amazon's fault--and they have done it a couple of times before, too.  I didn't lose any 'last page read' locations, but I did have to download all the purchased books I keep on my iPad--about a dozen.  It's not a 'fatal' error for me but it was an annoyance.

When I saw that update notification this morning, there was already a description saying not to install if you we're an IOS user.  Stupid on Amazon's part.  I just want that little red circle gone from my App icon and there is no way to do that.

If you did not install the Kindle update - I have verified that the books in my Kindle App are still there, readable and the App still works fine.  I gotta say tho, i like iBooks much better, the only reason for my having the Kindle App is that on rare occasions iBooks does not have the book I want.

The inability to remove that red circle is the only part that Apple has control over. Kindle broke their app, it's up to them to fix it.

If you want to let apple know how you feel about the inability to remove the icon

(Wouldn't exactly hold my breath but at least you can speak to the source)

Beyond that, just ignore the icon and wait for Amazon to fix it.
