The company that is sending you the text message is the issue, you should login to your account and change the settings regard alerts.

The problem is I don't know who is sending the alerts. That's the whole issue. Otherwise I would have taken care of it a long time ago. Thanks anyway.

Already tried sending " stop". No joy. Alerts continue.

Look at the content of the message. Doesn't it give you a clue as to what it's regarding? You should be able to deduce from that where it comes from.
Try replying with "help" if "stop" didn't do anything.
If all else fails, contact your carrier.
