Am running OS X 10.8.2, and don't recall seeing this before under Leopard or Lion:

I had entered time machine, and was purusing my Time Machine backups, when I noticed that one of the devices in Time Machine's "finder window" was "Time Machine Backups".  Clicking on this device shows me Backups.backupsdb, and clicking on that shows me the past backups that have been done...

I don't have any devices or folders excluded from being backed up...

Should the device "Time Machine Backups" normally be found here, or should it be excluded from being backed up?

Thanks in advance,

Bob

Your TM disk should be in Exclusions in Time Machine Preferences.

Are you unable to add it to the exlusion list, or does it just not exclude it?

The only thing in TM volume should be backups.backupdb > machine name > dated folders.

If you're unable to add your TM disk to the exclusion list, then something is wrong. I'm a bit confused about "Devices". Your TM disk should always be there under devices but that's not the way to access it. If when you enter TM inferface you can't find more than "now" again something is wrong.

Take a llok here at Pondini's Troubleshooting Time Machine guide and see if you can find anything related to your issue.

It's very strange... MBP has local snapshots even when no TM drive is not connected.

I wonder if that could have gotten into the mix. Did you ever do a restore of your iMac using files from the MBP?
