you probably have an 'archive' = full copy of an SDcard on your Desktop or on your harddrives top-level - this will be detected as a 'camera'. in case, this folder is corrupt, it'll crash iMovie.
erase the file.

Feb 27, 2013 11:10 PM in response to Karsten Schlüterby Drubbing,Thanks. But I've never used an SD card. Only ever connected my camera via calbe to import movies.
Where is my HD top level, I can't find anything on the HD via finder.
I've recently downloaded the ISO file mentioned above (from a reputable source) however, I've now discoeverd when this is mounted, or I put in the DVD of the burned raw files, that's when iMove crashes. Could this be corrupt?

you haven't told us what sort of camera you use.
read my reply just to the word 'archive'.
iMovie detects ANY sort of camera-like-file-structure as 'camera'.
could be a copy of a SDcard
could be a copy of a DVD = VIDEO_TS folder ....
in Finder, when you click on the tiny House-icon - that is your top-level ....

corrupt or in some 'other' way confusing iMovie.
iMovie is meant for Camcorders - no all-purpose-editor.
if the ISO (btw: weird way to share 'video'???) is a sort of DVD-image, and if this file is corrupt or out-of-standards, iM supports, this can cause issues.
what I would do:
• mount the ISO (double-click it)
• in case, a 'drive' symbol appears on your desktop, tell us what's inside
• in case, the ISO contains a VIDEO_TS, follow advice given in this boards User-Tipps, How to import/convertDVDs

Feb 28, 2013 12:43 AM in response to Karsten Schlüterby Drubbing,Well now I can load the drive, but it won't play, as it has before. The drive contains Video_TS files, but the audio_TS ones won't display.
I'm afraid user tips doesn't contain any topic related to importing DVDs, nor does a serch in iMovie discussions.

Feb 28, 2013 5:20 AM in response to John Cogdellby Drubbing,Thanks for the help. The ISO files are clearly an issue with iMovie.
I'm afraid the import tips aren't going to help, the DVD I burned is not MPEG, It's simply a copy of the files on the ISO mountable drive, which contains the VIDEO_TS folders files, which are are VOB files, whatever that is.

Feb 28, 2013 6:17 AM in response to Drubbingby Klaus1,You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
which is free, but you must also have the Apple mpeg2 plugin :
http://store.apple.com/us/product/D2187Z/A/quicktime-mpeg-2-playback-component-f or-mac-os-x
(unless you are running Lion in which case see below))
which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
And from the TOU of these forums:
Keep within the Law
- No material may be submitted that is intended to promote or commit an illegal act.
- Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.
If you are running Lion:
From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it. See this:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3381
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.
