I've got a MacBook Pro, not sure of the year but it's a 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7, Memory 8G, 1067 MHz DDR3.

I'm on the road, want to use a Hard Drive dock that has an eSATA port.  I notice I have a 'slot' on the left side of the MacBook Pro and wonder if this could take an eSATA adaptor ... and if yes, would this give me a better, and faster, link than the Firewire 800, given the dock only has Firewire 400 out?

Or, if yes, would I still be better off getting a Firewire 400 to 800 adaptor?

And, if yes, what kind of adaptor would I be looking for?

All ears, thank you ...

Ben

If that is an express card 34 port then you can get an eSata adapter and take advantage of the faster transmit speed which is faster that Firewire or USB. If you give the model number, a definitive answer can be provided (see SYSTEM PROFILER).

This a type of adapter that may suit your needs.  Note that it will run at Firewire 400 speeds with the adapter.

A model 6.2 MBP does not have an Express card 34 slot.  The one on your MPP is an SD slot.  Older 15" MBPs (up to late 2008) did but that was discontinued on later models.  Thus you cannot have eSata capabilities with your MBP.

One can only work with what one has.  Good luck to you.

I am pleased to hear that at least you stumbled on to some good news/features regarding your MBP.  You are not alone.  Every now and then I too learn about a feature or shortcut that I am not aware of.  I hope that your other post results in favorable news.

    Ciao.
