My iPad mini has recently lost the ability to detect touch on the left most side of the screen.

When I need to type the letter q or the number 1, or even to hit the back button, I have to turn the iPad around, as the 1st  5mm of the screen doesn't detect my touch.  Could this just be a software issue requiring an update or something, or is this likely to be a hard ware issue and I should pursue a warranty fix?

When something wonky like this happens, the first thing I always try is rebooting the iPad.

Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

It maybe a software issue, and it may very well be a hardware issue, but you will not know until you rule out all of the standard software fixes. This would be the first one. Try it. You have nothing to lose.

I believe that is the best thing to do now. Your Mini is still under warranty and as long as you didn't accidentally cause the damage by dropping or or something like that - this will be covered under the warranty.

    Good luck to you!
