I'm starting to think that this is an Nvidia issue.

I purchased a new laptop yesterday, moved my iTunes library over to it, and installed the latest version of iTunes and it works perfectly.  My laptop is using integrated Intel HD 4000 graphics.

I've submitted some information via a ticket about this issue and am waiting to hear back from Apple.  Of anyone that's currently having issues, is anyone NOT using Nvidia hardware/drivers?

If you read the threads, many people with ATI/AMD GPUs are having this issue too. Maybe a better assumption would be the new iTunes is more compatible with onboard Intel graphics than either Nvidia or ATI (which is ridiculous).

I am having the same issue on my desktop. I had Windows 7, 64-bit installed, but now I have Windows 8. It was working fine with no problems after updating Windows this winter. I purchased a video this week in iTunes and can't get it (or any preview video) to play. It totally hangs the program, and the only way to exit is by the task manager. I've tried all the suggestions I could find--nothing works. I'm a music teacher and really need my iTunes. So far it still works on my laptop with onboard Intel graphics. I have NVidia GeForce 330M graphics on my desktop and 8 GB of RAM. It's crazy the videos work on my cheap laptop!

I also had this problem, iTunes didn't playback videos (just black screen, time inidcator didn't move), while I could view them using Quicktime.

I've now investigated the last time I could view a video and what I did after that.

Turns out that I installed an audio driver (SigmaTel) trying to solve another problem (audio device disappears after hibernation).

Now I've unistalled this driver and iTunes video playback works again!

Well, they were playing again. Installed the latest iTunes update, all videos played perfectly. Synced my iPhone4s and now the problem is back. Video plays for 3 seconds and freezes.

I wiped my hard drive and reinstalled Windows 7.  I installed the latest drivers, with the exception of my graphics card.  I used the version on the DVD.  Choppy and freezing videos, but only the HD ones.

I uninstalled the nVidia drivers and installed the latest; version 314.14 (A newer version was released today and I've yet to install and try it)

With the 314.14 drivers, I was able to watch the Hobbit An Unexpected Journey, all the way through, full screen without any problems.

I'm starting to think this is an nVidia issues with iTunes.

It's April 9th and I have the same issue of a black screen, the video looks like it's playing. This should be fixed by now.

Posting on this forum - does it help? Who can I contact to fix this?

It's an NVIDA problem.  I've since reinstalled windows fresh and no longer have any issues.  You may be able to try and use Drivercleaner and remove all traces of the NVIDIA drivers and then install the latest.

I'm pretty sure it's specific to NVIDIA as I had previously thought disabling a quicktime setting solved my preoblem.   The only other change I made was I had uninstalled the NVIDIA card and installed a Radeon 6870 and the problem was gone.  Not thinking it was a video card problem, I just dismissed it as a Quicktime issue.

Now that I've reinstalled an NVIDIA card, this time a 660ti, I had the issues return.  Reinstalling Windows 7 with all frash drivers solved all my iTunes issues.

    I'm experiencing this problem now.

I tried opening iTunes in Safe Mode, but now when I open a video I have downloaded I get the "iTunes Has Stopped Working" notification and I'm forced to close the program.

This has been happening for weeks, and I have not been able to watch videos that I PAYED MONEY FOR.

    Not cool, Apple.

    I'm going back to Zune.

    That's a good one.

I don't know how far in or out of the minority we are, but if this issue is reasonably widespread, then it has some nasty implications for Apple's QC. (To pile on, I can't even get iTunes' window to maximize properly half the time, but I never made a peep about that.)

For my part, I've just made a habit of shortcutting iTunes' video folders and including them in my media library with all my non-iTunes movies and shows, and just playing them with QuickTime.

That's interesting. It wouldn't surprise me; AFAIK, Apple favors ATI (fueling their ******* contests with Adobe, who're in Nvidia's camp). If that's the case, then between iTunes and GTX cards, I'm tossing out iTunes (at least in the video department).

Granted, there are plenty of people with AMD Radeon-based builds who purportedly have this problem, so I don't know if it's safe to draw any conclusions. Additionally, not too long ago, I also did a fresh reinstall of my video drivers using Driver Fusion and I still had the issue.

I've had the problem for months (somewhere up there in the thread!) and run AMD Radeon, so it's not a brand issue. Luckily, I never muched like the iTunes player, so loading all the videos in with my non-apple content and using Quicktime is an easy workaround. Still, it sort of ***** that they seem to be ignoring the issue.

Alright guys, I have 3 machines. 1 out of the 3 will play movies in iTunes, The only common thing with the 2 that freeze as soon as I try to play ANY movies in iTunes have Intel 520 Solid state drives.

the oldest machine with the basics and somehow installed Windows 7 64bit on it, plays.

The new ones (One of them has 32gigs of ram) doesnt,

The video cards, codecs, and heck,m one of the machines I just bought,,, Sony Vaio with Windows 8 64bit also won't play any of my purchased movies,

If you cant fix this!!!!! Then I would like ALL my movies to have the DRM removed from them so I can play MY MOVIES!
