Q: Can I not install Final Cut Studio 2 on my new Mac Mini?

There is an issue where the Final Cut Studio installer issues an instruction Mountain Lion interprets as being a PowerPC instruction, which confuses the system.

Some have been able to get around this by typing the following instruction into a Terminal window to install the first FCP disc:

sudo installer -package \

/Volumes/Final\ Cut\ Studio/Installer/FinalCutStudio.mpkg -target /

This is because Final Cut Studio 2 is an old product which is no longer produced, superceded in 2011 by Final Cut Pro X.

The last bug fix release was Final Cut Pro 7.0.3 back in June, 2012.

Final Cut Pro 7 is part of Final Cut Studio 2.

FCP 7 will run on a Mini, but an install will fail without using a command-line workaround, and Final Cut Pro 7 has not been updated since June, 2012.

This is incorrect.

Final Cut Studio 2 contains Final Cut Pro 6, in 2009 Final Cut Studio 3 was released with FCP 7.

Final Cut Studio 3 will install without problem, Final Cut Studio 2 requires the workaround.

Yes, that was my error - sorry about that, I somehow got it into my mind FCS 2 was the last one, even though I own FCS 3 with FCP 7.

FCS 2 needs the workaround to install; FCS 3 (with FCP 7) should install just fine as-is.

I am having a major problem, I have an old mac purchased 7 years ago and my hard drive got problems but is still working, I got a new mac having OS X system, I have final cut pro 6 and I installed it on the new os X but it didn't work, I also used the conversion method mentioned on the net in order to work on final cut pro x because final cut pro 6 is not supported on OS X, with the conversion the final cut pro X was only able to read the original tapes but was not able to read the edited material, am really stuck and I need help, can someone recommend a helpful solution? when i went to mac technical support office they said that for old macs we can only offer to change the hard drive and RAM and replacing the old hard drive for OS with a new hard drive does not gaurantee that final cut pro 6 will work also, and if something later on doesn't work in the old mac OS we can not fix it or replace it because apple does not provide any other spare parts besides the RAM and hard drive.

Will this work around work for FCS with Final Cut 5?  Am I stuck buying FCS 3 or FCPX?  Which would you recommend?
