A typical avi file for a 2 hour movie that I have ripped off of a DVD is only 700kb and plays well on my TV off of my Mac. My home movie off of my Sony camera is 12gb and is only one hour. Why the difference?

MacBook Pro 15, Mac OS X (10.7.2), 1TB external drive
