Q: What happens to iWeb when there's no Mobile Me?

I was disappointed to learn that Apple will turn off Mobile Me next year. I'm a teacher and I liked using iWeb to create a small website for my classes (Homework, Activities,etc.). It was easy and the pages looked OK to me. I haven renewed my Mobile Me subscription when I bought a new iMac in January. Now I have to go through a bunch s__t to get a refund.

I am not interested in iClouds, iPhones, iPads, etc. I just don't want all the extra stuff. I just liked having an easy to post a website and create decent looking webpages.

You have to pay for iCloud, right? If I don't use and don't intend to use any iOS devices, what good is iCloud? Does it have any value?

What happens to my iDisk after June 30, 2012? Does it disappear?

Will iWeb be killed as well? I am told that you can publish webpages with iWeb to 3rd party sites, but if the application is no longer supported, it won't be long before it won't work correctly.

Are there any applications as good as and EASY as iWeb to use?

It looks good on paper but its very expensive compared to regular hosting.

Maybe you should mention it in the MobileMe and iCloud forums since a lot of desperate users seem to want these features and be prepared to pay the price.

It no more expensive than mobileme was, and they are building the features that mobileme had.   The thing I like is you can send them an email and they get right back to you with a clear answer for us newbs

I've been using Bluehost for many years, but of late their tech support is not so good.  I was think of switching and what seemed to get the best reviews was iPage (I think that was it).  But some comments said they were slow uploading things to them.  I just paid for another year at Bluehost, but perhaps could get a refund.  I'll look at Macmate.

I seem to remember paying around $80 a year for Mobile Me hosting at Apple.  I paid the same at Macmate.  Maybe they want to charge you more?  I thought my deal was great for all that they have to offer — lots of goodies included.  You can read all about them on their web site.

I've been looking @ Sandbox and Wordpress, and while I probably won't use anything but iWeb for a looong time no matter if it's updated or not. I make everything for my website in Pixelmator 2.0 and put them into iWeb. After my website is exported I add 1 line of code and that's it. My website is 8 pictures and 1 HTML widget. That's it. I bought a domain for $4 and webhosting for $7/month with 150GB and 4G. And I have 150 email forwarding accounts which isn't bad. The soul reason I use iWeb is because of how easy it is to use and the things you can do with it. A few files, folders and pictures. It doesn't get much simpler.

When I switched to Sandvox, people in their forum said that iWeb is almost like a .jpg pic and that's why when you post some text, it isn't picked up by the search engines.  I'm with you on iWeb ease of use, but I was to the point where I knew I would have to eventually switch, so I just said "let's get on with it."  I didn't one-day want to wake up and realize my website didn't work anymore and have to scramble to get back up.

Well that just goes to show how uninformed Sandvox users are!

Is that correct Robby?  I really don't couldn't verify that one way or the other, except that my unique visitors triple shortly after switching to Wordpress.

No, I didn't and I am doing that now with a Wordpress plugin, so you may be correct in that is what is suddenly bringing people to my site in such larger numbers.

Hi, just scrolling through some old posts to try and figure out what I need to do.

Can you tell me how to publish the website I just created in iWeb?

When I try to publish, the useless MobileMe account option pops up, and when I click "no thanks" I am not given an alternative.

My work has been saved, but to where? I cannot find a file. Very frustrating for a person with limited skills who thought she was hot stuff for being able to make the website!!!

If you have an early version of iWeb you can only do this by publishing to a share or folder on your desktop. MacMate (www.macmate.me) work so that you can publish to directly to your webspace on your cloud disk. There's a free trial if you want to give it a try, instructions are here:

    Hope this helps.

With iWeb 3 click on the site folder in the left hand pane and select eitther Local Folder or FTP Server:

    iW3publish.PNG

With iWeb 2 your only option is to use the File ➙ Publish to to a Folder menu option

    iW2publish.png

and use a 3rd party FTP client like YummyLite, Transmit or Cyberduck to upload the iWeb site folder and index.html file to the ftp server.
