    Hey,

Sure, but in the desktop version you can configure two (or more) different outgoing servers in the same accouny. The point is to avoid having to choose tha account in the iphone Mail app menu every time. The main idea of this thread is to be ablo to mix the me.com and a personal account in iCloud, incoming and outgoing mails.

Same effect, simplified instructions. Thanks James!!

    **On Mac:**

Go to Setting >iCloud and turn off Mail

    Go to settings >Mail

    >delete any existing accounts

    >add new account using gmail email address and password

    >on account information screen change:

              > incoming mail server to: p99-imap.mail.me.com

              > User name: (iCloud or Me user name)

              > Password: (iCloud or Me password)

    >Outgoing mail server will already be setup to use gmail servers

    **On iPad/iPhone**

Go to settings >iCloud and turn off mail

in settings >Mail, Contacts, Calendar delete any existing mail account other than the iCloud account

    click >Add Account

    choose >Other >Add Mail Account

    Name: Your name

    Email: (Your gmail email address)

    Password: (Your gmail password)

Description: I use my domain name as description

    Incoming Mail Server:

    Host Name: p99-imap.mail.me.com

User Name: iCloud or Me user name

    Password: iCloud or Me password

    Outgoing Mail Server:

    Host Name: smtp.gmail.com

    User Name: (gmail user name)

    Password: (gmail password)

Happy Days! Thanks everyone on this one!

These instructions work great when using email from the Mac or iPhone/iPad, etc...  How about a workaround for the iCloud Web panel?

Like, using the icloud.com site to send email from your name@gmail.com OR your name@my-domain.com address instead of the default name@mac/me/icloud.com?

As you know, me.com used to have the ability to do it, but it got removed with the icloud.com transition. Can this be done trough aliases or somehow...?

    Hopping...

You cannot send using the iCloud outgoing server with anything other than the iCloud address, and on the website you don't have the option of using another service's outgoing server as you can with the Mail application.

Has anyone implemented this workaround with iOS 6.1.1? It's been solid through the last few updates I've done, but before I upgrade from 5.1.1 I want to make sure.

If I understand correctly, I would set my mail server to forward all incoming mail to my @icloud.com account. I would use the outbound icloud servers, but show my private email as a return address.

As I also use a Outlook on a PC, I would setup Outlook using the icloud address.  Then, the iCloud Windows Console would allow Outlook to participate in the synching.

    Are my understandings correct?

It works for me 6.1.2 on iphone/pad but not on mac mail 10.8.2

This stopped working for me two days ago.  I'm on Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and I have been using this setup since it was originally proposed in this forum.  Everything works fine on my ipad and iphone but not on my iMac desktop.

I keep getting the message "Mail can't connect to the account "ACCOUNT NAME".

Enter the password for user "@icloud email address"

I re-enter the Password (correctly) and hit OK and the message pops up again.

    ARGGGGGH!  What happened here?

Same here, Darren. For me it stopped working on March 1st. It has worked flawlessly since November for me. Now I just get a message saying that Mail is unable to connect and that "The server returned the error: The server “p99-imap.mail.me.com” refused to allow a connection on port 143."

I don't know what to do. I can still access my mail through the icloud website, but I can't use Mail to receive messages at all. Oddly, I can still send messages, but I have no idea if they are coming from my .com email or my icloud email.

Very frustrated. Anyone have any ideas?

I'd like to know more about how this is and is not working for people on iOS 6 & Mountain Lion. Can you please post your details (versions numbers, errors, how you have/had it setup, etc.)

I'm currently running Lion 10.7.5 and iOS5.1.1 and it's working without a hitch. I use this solution to manage 2 of my own domains and a Hotmail account. I'm interested in upgrading my phone to 6.1.2, and also want to take advantage of Mountain Lion. But recent reports have me concerned.

Look forward to seeing what people have to say. I really hope those of us who were willing to put in the effort to understand this workaround aren't going to lose out. I've really enjoyed the ability to use my own domains and don't particularly want to go back to my old setup.

    SRWorks,

I found the solution - under Username you have to remove the @me.com or @icloud.com just use your username.  This works for me!

Pleased to hear this. Can others confirm success with this solution?

I just got off the phone with the highest Senior Level tech for email.

I want iCloud for my domain including Calendars.  I want my calendar requests to push my business address not iCloud address.

I want it to work just like Exchange.  I want to setup a new iMAP email and then let iCloud take over with Mail, Calendar, Contacts.  I don't like Exchange or IMAP calendars etc.

    Is this Possible?

I want my own domain but have iCloud do everything.  Forwarding, Replying, Rules or whatever.  Can this be done?

I need it on all Mac Devices.  Whether doing it on my personal iCloud email or creating another.  Don't care.  I basically want everything iCloud hiding the email address everyplace.  Full Calendars.  Contacts don't need, that can be done with pesonal email if can't do.

    Very respectfully,

    jay

I'm afraid none of this is possible. You cannot send using the iCloud outgoing mail server with anything other than your iCloud address as the 'From' address. (If you are using the Mail application on your Mac you can of course set it to use your own ISP's outgoing server instead of the iCloud one, but you can't do this on the iCloud website.) iCloud doesn't relate to other email addresses at all.

There has to be a way.

    Everyone finds a way:)

    I need this!

Everyone told me I couldn't drag and drop any file to store in my 25Giga iCloud storage.  Not only can I do that, I can store any file including movies and access that on my iPhone.

Everyone told me I couldn't have a global hot key.  I have one, I used Automator and have control B to give me Safari wherever I am on my Mac vs. having to click on it in the dock.

I NEED HELP, BUT KNOW IT CAN BE DONE.  THERE IS ALWAYS A WORK AROUND.

    Again,

Need domain to be used for iCloud account for full functionality just like if I were to use Exchange.
