Thank you King_Penguin, your answer solved this issue for me
I guess to access that menu bar, a person will always have to us Alt-S, since it's now associated with the Store, and not with the player, in Preferences, as it was before.

I pressed Alt- s and I still don't get store menu bar to pop up... HELP!

Are you using iTunes 11 on a PC - if you are then control-B should get all the menu headings to show at the top of iTunes.
