I have been able to do this also. The string works in VLC player but not in Quicktime. The sad thing is I bought quicktime pro for a project that needs to stream from a video camera but it does not support basic authenication. Can apple fix this please!

Possibly if you specify the problem and suggest the enhancement or "fix" you want made via the product feedback form as suggested elsewhere. If enough people complain about the same issue, then chances for a resolution will likely improve.iMac, OS X Mountain Lion, 3.4 GHz Quad Core i7, 12GB 1333 MHz

Thanks for the feedback Jon.
Taylormic have you requested this feature be built into Quicktime? Its common syntax for connecting to a ftp or other secure URL strings it seems strange that it is missing from Quicktime. I'm wondering if it is an oversite or if it was working and got broken with an upgrade.
