    Well I was trying to show that the issue is a bit tricky to show...

    I have the test song and the fans get crazy after 2 mins if the songs is played on Itune... I did the test with VOX, no problem ... But when i started quicktime to do a video recording this and Istat pro... bam the fan get crazy too even with VOX...

    Then i decided to record only my widget screen with istat pro using quicktime...

    After 2mins bam the fans start to be tornados ... What i noticed is also that the GPU diode sensor on istat pro get hot and about 79°C it start the fans....

    So anyway i can understand that :

    - Itune has a graphic plugin in background to display equalizer or anything related to graphical stuff which cause to warm the GPU.... and then start the FAN

    - Quicktime recording of retina display also warm the GPU and then starts the fans

    - Why the SSD will warm the GPU sensor ? (too close ?) Is there any ssd benchmarking tool to make speed test in loop of the SSD ?

    What's interesting in my case, is I had not experienced it playing music, but then again, I'm ususally doing my engineering work on my MBPr, with music and entertainment left for my iPad / iPod / Home Entertainment System etc.

    My first instance of runaway fans was under the lightest of conditions, having only one browser open only a few tabs and a cool computer. The fact it was cold is what is so alarming. Out of nowhere the fans spun up to a roar, stayed there for a few minutes, then decelerated back down to idle. Every so often this happens, usually daily, and it's horribly annoying on a high quality well engineered computer.

    At this juncture I have mixed thoughts. On one hand I'm trying to be patient and wait since I'm beyond 14 days, and see what Apple does.

    However quite frankly, with their record of silence and lack of action in some cases, I don't have a lot of confidence in a reasonable solution. I'm trying to have faith but I got a dreadful "Antennagate" iPhone 4 that nothing was done about.

    After having a 3GS that was a stellar phone in the calling departent, living with the iPhone 4 was beyond frustrating.

    I got my rMBP 3 days ago. I noticed random fan spikes when installing software (MS Office) and when browsing in Chrome.

    I hope that gets fixed with a software update. I really love the machine and I was lucky to get a Samsung screen. Not going to return it and probably get a Sandisk SSD and an LG screen...

    I feel the same way. Lucky to get a Samsung display which is quite noticeably better than LG. I know this because we have several guys in my office with the LG and they are below average.

    Had mine been equipped with a Samsung SSD I would be thrilled but of the over 20 new MBPr's we have purchased for the office, over the last two months, they all have come with SanDisk SSD's.

    How do you tell if you have a samsung or LG screen?

    From a terminal screen, run:

    ioreg -lw0 | grep \"EDID\" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

    From the value you receive, this is how you determine the screen manufacturer:

    LPXXXX = LG

    LSNXXXX = Samsung

    Maaan. Since I woke my Pro from sleep (5 minutes ago) it made the fans go crazy four times with the CPU being idle. This is unacceptible and I hate Apple for that crap.

    EDIT: It doesn't even stop. It's between 4k and 6k speed since I woke it up...
