On reflection, I am hesitant to run the 1.0.3 updater, as from previous suggestions on this thread, I have my iSight working with FaceTime in Lion.  So, if "it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

But it is good to have it in my library for future needs.

    Hi,

Once you  Post the Edit iterm appears lower right along with "Reply"  (And for Level two posters and Above "Report Post")

It is active for 15 minutes from the time you post.

If you are editing you need to repost before that 15 minutes is up or it will show you a red bar saying you don't have permission.

Once you have reposted the 15 minutes starts again.

The Hosts will tend to remove stuff that "break the rules"  See Terms of Use

Technically you signed up for this when you created your posting Alias for the Support Communities

In addition to these Apple (via the Hosts) will tend to remove personal info  when it appears.  (emails, Apple IDs, Serial Numbers, Phone Numbers)

The link to a Share of an Apple software item would be considered breaking the rules.

They may have even emailed you to take it down.

What does this mean, and how do you do it?

Does this mean I can keep my editing ability continuing indefinitely, if I edit every 14 minutes?  Because, in my experience the 15 minutes end my editing ability, irrespective of how many times I have edited.

    HI,

My understanding is yes the editing can be extended "forever"

I have certainly used it three or four times in some posts when I spot Spelling and grammatical errors.

Edit 3 in main message part of this post.

9:35 PM  (I will try and keep an eye on the Time for a later post)

You are saying that you have extended the editing period to 45 to 60 minutes ("...used it three or four times...")?

This is certainly NOT my experience.

Many times I post on the fly and do my thinking as I reread my post.  Hence, I am continuously making changes to the post.

I find that at about 15 minutes into this process, I get the dreaded "unavailable" bar and my editing ability has come to an end.

PS: I just noticed that you posted substantive information after your "signature."  I did not notice it on first read and generally think that most people would not expect to see more substantive information there either.

Quite honestly, after I have read your signature once, why would I ever want to read it again?  Hence, it becomes invisible to me.

Update 1: the posting date and time after your screenname near the top of each post will advance with each edit.  Hence it is possible for two posts (by different screennames) to be chronological, yet out of order with regard to their time stamp.

That is, if you can still edit your last post now, it will still be published before this post, yet have a time after this one!

UPDATE 2: 12 minutes is still less than 15 minutes.  Let me know if you can edit substantially later than 15 minutes from your initial posting time.  You shoud be shut off from further editing at about 9:46pm, which has now passed.

    Humm,

Bang on the 15 minutes from the original Post  I was locked out.

(Actually I waited until my computer said 46 minutes past)

I got the refuse banners (there were two)

Yes editing a post does cause issues with continuity of the information it contains.

I will think on the Info with the sig pic.

I stand corrected on the overall time limit.

(I am sure it used to be refreshed continually before - it has probably been abused at some time and Apple have altered the timing.)

"Before"?  I joined about two years ago and my experience seems to be always a 15 minute cut off.

    Hi,

I go back at least 3 versions of Software that have been used to run the boards.

This ID goes back to 2003 (Jan) and I had another before that.

I tend nowadays to flick into HTML mode as the Browser's Spellcheck can operate on that view and I correct my spellings just before I post.

It must be at least two years that the current software was installed.

Well, be my guest.  Maybe it's my OCD, ADD or whatever; but why would you not take my suggestion and put ALL of your substantive information in the post before the signature?

I tend nowadays to flick into HTML mode...

How do I do that?  Are there advantages?

Go re-edit your last post, so we can show them to be chronological, yet out of time order...

    Hi,

I did try to reply last night (my time) and found on hitting the repost/update button that I got the Post it note "We'll be back" maintenance screen.

Basically for me the HTML screen allows me to use several preconstructed items in the post.

Most Posts get the "sig (Pic Date and Time, Log Message in green and Mac Specs).

These are created then held as "Snippets" in TextExpander which is an Add-on that works across all apps.

It comes with several pre made items including one that is converted in to the Date and Time.

The Sig one looks like this in plain text.

    <img alt="3Sigcopy2.png" class="jive-image" src="https://discussions.apple.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/217916/3Sigcopy2 .png" /><br>

    6:42 PM      Friday; March 8, 2013<br>

<p><br ><span style="color: green; font-family: Apple Casual; font-size: 8pt;"><em>Please, if posting Logs, do not post any Log info after the line "Binary Images for iChat"</em></span></p>

    <p> </p>

    <p><span style="font-size: 8pt; color: gray;">

    &#63743;  iMac 2.5Ghz 5i 2011 (Mountain Lion 10.8.2)</br>&#63743; G4/1GhzDual MDD (Leopard 10.5.8) <br />&#63743; MacBookPro 2Gb (Snow Leopard 10.6.8) <br />&#63743; Mac OS X (10.6.8),<br />

&#63743; Couple of iPhones and an iPad<br /><br /> "Limit the Logs to the Bits above Binary Images." &#63743; No, Seriously</span> </span></p>

The first bit is an image tag with the location of the Pic.  (in this case here at Apple rather than running me around the "Add Pic" script)

The <br>  is a line space.

The date and time is held in the snippet as "%1I:%M %p  %A; %B %e, %Y" followed by another line break.

Then the "span" bit for  the coloured text in different font which is sized to match the board's usual font size.

The <p></p> will also give you a line break as the <p> is for paragraph.

The colour changes to grey/gray with the spec info spaced with <br> tags to have each items on one line.

The &#63743 is the unicode number for the Apple Icon which makes it show on many more Browsers as not all readers will be using a font in their Browser that has the icon at ALT+Shift+k

If I post a link to me Web site  and as it has a Donation Button I have to post a notice here

<p><span style="color: maroon; font-family: apple casual; font-size: 10pt;"><em>I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link</em></span></p><br>

I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link

Some of the constructs I have were for the previous Jive version the boards used to use.

The current one relies heavily on javascript that preforms the "little jobs" like getting pics posted, Inserting quote areas, changing to the HTML editor and back or even the Advanced Editor where you can also access colours and more Fonts.

In some cases they enclosed image tags but you can't load pics from external sites any more.

Has anyone tried external iSight with Mountain Lion 10.8.3?

    I have a

    - Macpro 3,1

    - External isight updated to firmware 1.0.3

    - Connected via firewire 400.

Video works fine in Photobooth but recording a video has NO sound.

Video works in Facetime, but the other person cannot hear me, there is NO sound from the mic.

Skype works fine with video and sound.

Garage band records a voice track fine

So I know the camera and mic works fine, but just not together for Photobooth or Facetime.

Could anyone suggest something?  I supposed I could experiment and boot to a 10.7.3 install to see what happens.

    Thanks,

    Andrew

Are you still around Andrew?  Try facetime'ng me at MichaelLAX at AOL dot com.  If that does not work, try me at same screenname at Mac dot com.

I am on Lion and it worked before I updated to 10.7.5; haven't tried it since then...
