I've dropped my 1TB Western Digital hard drive! It does not mount on my Macbook Pro, but it can still be read by Disk Utility ...

After the accident, the hard drive would make weird high-pitched noises for the first few seconds of being plugged in.

I don't suspect my data to be corrupted, but I do suspect the 'insides' of the hard drive to be slightly out of place (as I dropped it from ... 1 - 1.5m)

All fields in the "First Aid" tab of Disk Utility are greyed out. I can erase and partition, but I really don't want to do that, seeing that all the data may be erased.

I don't know whether the problem is a software or hardware issue.

MacBook Pro (13-inch Late 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.4), Western Digital 1TB My Passport
