hi there I'm new to macs, I want to ask what happens if I reformat my mac, would I have to manually reinstall the OSX system or would it automatically re-appear ?

You'll need to separately reinstall Mac OS X; this is done by running the installer after erasing the drive. Both options are available by starting the computer with the Command and R keys held down.

Niel is correct, however reinstalling OS X is an extremely rare occurance, it's not like MS Windows that needs to be frequently re-installed. The best thing you can do for your system is to let it run and leave it alone, try to forget about third party utilties to make it run better, most of what is commercially available is already built into OS X. In other words, just enjoy the system and let it run.

Remove Avast and all antivirus software, please re-read my last post. Antivirus software on OS X tends to create more issues than they solve. The BEST (bar none!!!!!) thing you can do for your system is to keep it up-to-date by running Software Update at least 1x per week. Look in System Preferences and you will learn how to set how to set it to automatically check.
