Q: Ipod Won't sync to Windows 8 PC

My PC with Windows 8 was crashing after syncing my Ipod Nano. I was not experiencing the problem when Syncing my IPAD nor my classic IPOD. I was getting a blue screen with a message WDF_Violation after sync my IPOD NANO. I followed a recommendation I found ina MS forum of uninstalling Itunes and some other Apple applications and then reinstalling everything, but the problem persisted. I had the impression that a violation was triggered when Itunes was trying to automatically eject the NANO, but it was hard to tell due to the blue screen error. What I decided to do is to check on the IPOD Nano SUMMARY page ENABLE DISK USE. This requires to manually eject the device before disconnecting it (Task bar, right click on devices and then select the IPOD NANO to disconnect your IPOD). I have connected/disconnected  the IPOD NANO multiple times and  so far so good, no blue screen. Has anybody experienced this problem and found a different solution?

Help home | Browse help | Contact support     Set up a device to sync in Windows Media Player You can use Windows Media Player to copy music, videos, and photos from your Player Library to a portable device, such as a compatible MP3 player. This is called synchronizing, or syncing. There are two ways to sync items to a device: one is automatic, and the other is manual. When you connect a device to your PC for the first time, Windows Media Player selects the sync method that works best for your device, depending on the device's storage capacity and the size of your Player Library. After your device is set up the first time, you can choose a different sync method if you want. Show all Automatic sync Manual sync To set up your device 0. 0. 0. 0. My problem, too!

I just installed Windows 8 on a new PC and iTunes crashes everytime I try to sync my iPod classic.

The second time it comes up with a message "sync file not found" and probbly it gives me th blue scree when it tries to disconnect (eject) my iPod.

Does anyone know how to solve this? Can we expect a quick fix from Microsoft (or Apple)? This is veryannoying, I tought Windows 8 was a great OS, but now it turns out to be the same pain in the *** as the other versions of Windows.

    KR,

    Ludo.

I had the same problem with My iPod Nano, but fixed the issue by running iTunes in compatibility mode.  I found the advice at http://tinyurl.com/amdhoxt.  Which states:

The new version of ITunes is not compatible, currently, with Windows 8. You must change the settings for ITunes.  Right click on the ITunes desktop icon > click properties > click compatibility tab > under "Compatibility mode" check the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"  box.  Choose the version of Windows that worked previously for you in the past.  I tried it myself and it worked wonderfully.

I am having a similar problem. I have an iPod Classic 80Gb with a brand new computer using iTunes11 on Windows 8.

iTunes sees the iPod on the Sidebar, but when I try to sync or change any settings, roughly half the time it will crash my windows and cite a WDF Violation error. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. Regardless, even if it doesn't crash, it won't sync. It gets as far as "Starting Sync" and then it just stops.

I have verified that the iPod still syncs fine on my old xp machine, and I have tried the following, all to no avail.

    Enabling Disk use

Converting higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC

Deleting and reinstalling the iPod's drivers through device manger

Running iTunes in XP SP3 compatibility mode

    Running iTunes as Administrator

At one point, with disk use enabled and 128 kbps bit rate selected, I managed to get it to prompt me to Erase and Sync. it went on to erase everything on the iPod, but would not load any of my media back up. Subsequent attempts to sync gave the same result.

I am getting extremly frustrated with this. Someone please help make it better !?!

It may well be MS's problem however after receiving a new shuffle for Christmas that came with a very small leaflet of directions and going through an endless maze of Apple's iPod help I am convinced that Apple has no problem with you using iTunes and making purchases but will not make it easy for PC users to sync on our non Apple devices.

I had an older Nano in the past so have a sizable library on my desktop  running Vista and wanted to transfer through the home network to my new laptop running windows 8. (Topic for another forum)  I finally gave up-reformatted the iPod and started all over using suggestions from this forum and checked to enable for disc use and so far so good.

I've also done everything you listed here except the erasing everything on my iPod (5th generation).  If you read all of the "solutions" proposed and even those that supposedly succeeded you will understand as I do that this is a major issue for Apple iPods, iPads, iPhones, etc.

    Victory!

As someone mentioned on another thread, I found the article here on Apple's support pages with instructions for completely removing iTunes, and after backing up, I did so and installed version 10 which can also be found on the search window at the top of the page here.

    It is syncing.

    Finally.

AND I have Cover flow back! Everything's coming up aces!

I found a new fix at http://www.reviversoft.com/blog/2012/12/wdf-violation/.  You simply enable disk use.

    Finally got it working!

The steps that did it for me are:

    1. plug in the ipod, start itunes and set up the synchronisation. Let it crash with the wdf

    2. unplug ipod, and restart computer

    3. plug in the ipod and start itunes as administrator

    4. Itunes will automatically start the synchronisation

But it is a annoying routine, and I will not be buying new gens until apple can be bothered to get their programs working properly!

Great Ruk, but how do I actually sign in with iTunes as the administrator.  My 5th gen. iPod nano says it was set up to run under Windows XP and I can't seem to change that. My current OS is Win 8.  What OS  r   u    using?

Great!  How do you (simply) enable disc use?

Right click the iTunes icon and select "Run as administrator"

If you have the itunes icon on the desktop it should show on the dropdown menu that appears. If you have it on the new sart menu it appears in the screeen bottom.
