Run the Boot Camp Assistant, then click on the link that appears to view and print the instruction manual. It's very clear and precise to where a mistake is highly unlikely unless you absolutely ignore what the manual states.

You must make a backup of your current installation, Boot Camp installations are not wthout risk. Whenever a partition is to be added or altered a backup is required in case of failure or error.
Get an external drive and either make a clone or use Time Machine to backup. Then Read the directions.
