I have exactly the same issue, again on a 15" MBP retina, and again it seems to happen intermittently when it wakes from sleep. mikel51 are you running VM at all?

yes, I am running parallels with windows 8--but the black out doesn't seem to relate to whether the VM is runnning or not.

OK interesting to know. I've only really just started to notice the problem so haven't been able to do much experimentation. I pretty much have Windows 8 running in VM Ware Fusion the whole time so my original guess was that this might have been the culprit (since it displays warnings about the graphics switching and such when you start it up) however if you experience the issue regardless of whether your VM is running and you're using a different VM engine then we can probably rule this out.
What resolution are you using coz thats the other thing that springs to mind? I'm using the QuickRes app (http://www.quickresapp.com) to toggle between different resolutions.

I'm having the exact same issue on my 15" MBP Retina. I got it for Christmas but this problem just started in the last couple of days

i dont switch resolution---just use the panel native resolution---best for retina display setting

I have the exact same problem....after starting from sleep it goes black for a few seconds. Doesn't happen all the time but frequent enough to notice.
Anybody come up with a solution?
