Brand new phone.  My daughter has the same phone, no issues (knock on wood).  The thing is you don't know you don't have phone service unless you check your phone every minute. I visited the Verizon store numerous times and they went through several different procedures.  They told me to call Apple.  Called Apple and they said everything that Verizon had me do was what they would have me do.  Told me it was a Verizon issue.  Verizon did arrange for me to get a new phone (the first one was only 4 months old).  If it this one goes out again, I will have them swap out the sim card.  Thanks for your input p_rod 50 and Mr. Luigi!

    Pat!!!!!! Heeeelllloooooooooooo!!!!!!

Hope you and your iPhone are doing well.  I see you're interested in when the next iPhone (5S? 6?) will be released.

August?  So many rumors.  I still have a mad desire for a larger screen iPhone.  Not the skinny 4 inch iPhone 5 that Apple put out to keep one hand iPhone users happy.  My uses of the iPhone would almost all be enhanced with a larger screen.  But, I'm putting money on a larger screen iPhone not happening.  I'd say we have a much better chance of seeing the next iPhone with more or less the same exterior form factor as the current iPhone 5.

    And I weep.

I also think there is a good chance well see a lower cost, less powerful, plastic iPhone to address emerging markets...especially China.

Great to hear from you.  What would we do without this SIM Forum!

    Always Best, Mr. Luigi

I am also in a bit of a twist too. I just got an iPhone 4s from a friend and it's locked with fido/rogers but it came without a sim card and she also reset the phone and it wont let me past choosing the language, country, and wifi, is it supposed to do that?

Hi Mr. Luigi (or anyone who can help)

I have an iPhone 4 and just upgraded to 6.1.3 with firmware 4.12.05, and SIM card wavered for two days and now can't be read.  I know the SIM card is fine because I swapped it with mu husband's (same model) and it worked fine in his, while my phone didn't read his SIM card either.  He is on older software.  Both phones are AT&T and not under warranty anymore.  Neither has been tampered with in any way.  I did a full restore and that didn't fix it either.  Any thoughts?  On vacation and no apple or AT&T store anywhere near us for the next two weeks.

    Thanks for your help.

    NYCgrrrl:

I am sorry you are having this problem, but as it is right now, there is about only one solution available and that is to just get another SIM card. I have been on and off thsi list now for over two years, and replacing the SIM card seems to be the only real fix. In case you haven't read through all these posts, and there are a TON of them, I had this problem while living outside of Boston for a four month period. In that time frame, my phone was replaced, by an Apple store, five different times. I had the same problem with each new phone. Even though I had replaced the SIM card once, this problem kept occurring. I guess I gotr a "bad" SIM card with the replacement card too.

And even though your SIM card worked in your husband's phone does NOT mean it is "good" and will work in your phone. If it is not working in YOUR phone there is a problem with IT or with the ability of your phone to read it.

Knocking on wood, I have not had the problem since replacing my SIM (except for a ont time occurrence but a reboot took care of it) in about 16 months.

Even though you are on vacation, is it possible to contact an AT&T store nearby and ask them to Mail or Fed Ex you a new card? Volunteer to pay the shipping if they ship you a new card. It couldn't hurt to try. If not, I guess you will have to wait until you return home.

    Good luck!

Let us know how it works for you.

    Pat

    Hi NYCgrrrl!

My good buddy Pat is totally right.  The strong odds are you need a BRAND SPANKIN' NEW 128k micro SIM card.  As unbelievable as it sounds, the fact that your card worked in your husband's phone does not mean the card is not guilty  due to the very "sim-centric" nature of the 4, 4S iPhones.

I hope you are able to find an AT & T store or can have one mailed.

    HELLO PAT!!!!!!!!

    Mr. Luigi!

Man, it was GREAT to hear from you today. I hope the NYCgirlllll takes the advice.

I hope all is well with you.

I am very happy that this thread doesn't get a lot of traffic anymore....maybe Apple caught on? LOL! Yeah, right.....

I am thinking of upgrading....but not sure I want the 5S...may hold out for the NEXT gen...... or maybe just give it all up and go back to a landline! :-)

Take care, my friend..... I hope we meet someday soon!

    Pat

Hi & thank you.  Since my husband's sim won't work in my phone I assumed it was the new software but will see if the radio shack on the other side of the island has the 128k.  I'll probably be in line for the 5s.  I shouldn't have updated the OS!

P.s.  It is frustrating that a sim car works perfectly for two years until you upgrade software!  They need to fix that with the 5s.

Hi, after reading EVERYTHING there is on the web and trying everything I could not get mi iphone 4s fixed. At the beggining I got the invalid sim message every week, then every day, then immediately after reseting iphone. Tried putting tape on sim where it seemed to be closest to the tray on one side, but no luck. Today after closer inspection I saw a little metal leg inside the iphone that moves in and out when you insert the clip to open the tray, that little piece of metal seemed to be touching the metal part of the sim, so I put tape on the metal upper part of the sim (closest to the outside of the phone when sim is inserted) covering the sim up until the connector lines, about 2 o 3 millimeters... problem solved!! works perfectly.

Very happy!! Iphone saved!!!!! hardware problem!

My husband's iphone 4S had the sim card issue.  We went to an Apple Store and were told we had to make an appointment for the next day.  The store is 1 hour from our home.  We left and went to our local Verizon store. Two steps into the store a young man working there suggested we just remove the sim card since it is only needed for international calling.  He removed the card and service was instantly restored.  The fact that the folks at the Apple Store wouldn't or couldn't give us this info is pathetic!  The Verizon guy also told us to come by for a new sim card if we decide to travel internationally.

Apparently not all invalid sim card messages are due to a defective iPhone 4S, or defective sim, or metal clip shorting (touching) the sim card circuitry.

I too had a problem that was supposedly fixed but reoccured a week later under similar circumstances.

Got in touch with the phone carrier again. The 2nd carrier rep checked my number and saw that my phone serial number was recognized in my carrier's database but the model was not now recognized. He corrected that.

So make sure your carrier rep checks their data base and doesn't just have you check the sim.

Afterwards, I tested it myself by toggling both Airport mode and Cellular Data off and on (one of those seems to trigger the problem). The sim was still recognized.

Am optomistic that's solved the problem for good.
