I am having this problem now, I have no idea how it started.  I downloaded a new album from itunes, then loaded up some CD's I had too.  Next thing I know, my Ipod classic is empty.  I have no idea how it got that way, because I have added songs via itunes and CDs since I have had it for 5 years or so.  So, I had to restore, restart, thought all was well, because my itunes library appeared on my ipod, thank goodness.  NOT.  some albums play, some don't, including, the album, I just downloaded from itunes.  Pulling my hair out, I have had more problems with ipad, ipod, etc, than is worth it.

how do you drop the "bit rate"?   and does it affect the song in any way?

Another annoying problem now, it seems like my ipod is not very responsive, takes forever for a song to start, or scroll through the menu.

first check to see if they are over 2000kbps.  If yes this could be your issue.  woudl be surprised to find this on an itunes download.  try converting to apple loosess version first.  this may help

the worst part of this error is, i don't see a way to specifically identify which tracks are being skipped. If i could do that, i could sort it in itunes much more quickly.

as it stands, i go through each song on my ipod to see if it skips. generally, all of these files came from CD's that I burned years ago. and again, they all still play on my iphone/ipad

How do I convert to "Apple Looses," and what would that do?

    Computer semi-illiterate here.

I recently imported 4 files, m4a.  They would play in itunes, but when imported onto iphone - nothing.  Solution - Right clicking each and use the Create ACC version option.  Once new items created delete originals.  Resync iPhone.  See if this helps.
