Help. My iphone will not ring or make noise when I receive a text. It doesn't make noise when I type either. The ringer is turned all the way up and it is on. When I go to sounds and choose a ringtone it plays. Also, the bell symbol doesn't show up when I flip the ringer button. I've already tried resetting it and turning it off.

Sounds like the mute switch may have failed. Make an appointment at the genius bar and have it checked if you can't see the indicator that it's switching between mute/ring when you flip the switch back and forth.

I found the answer on another website. Go to settings>general>accessibility>assitive touch.

A small dot will on your screen>tap it>tap device>tap unmute.

It works but I can't figure out how to get the dot off my screen.

So I bought an app called SilentAlert for $4.99. It works:) it sure beats paying whatever they would have wanted at the Genius Bar.

Genius Bar consultations are free. So you just wasted $4.99. And you can get the dot off your screen by turning off assistive touch.

I don't even know why you would respond with a comment like that. That is just rude. I'm not an idiot. I know I could have gotten the dot off by turning off assistive touch, but then the phone went silent again. The closest Genuis Bar to my house is an hour away and with the price of gas I think I saved money not to mention my time.
