Can I back up my iCloud data (my iPhone 5 backup) to my PC?

I want to free up some storage area in my iCloud to save money.

I no longer have the iPhone5, but want to keep the backup for restoring in the future when I get the iPhone 5s or 6.

If I could simply copy the backup file from the iCloud to my PC, and then use iTunes on the PC to restore it later, that would be ideal.

Other OS, iCloud backup

You can't copy your iCloud backup to your PC.  It can only be restored to a replacement iOS device from iCloud.  This article explains how to back up your iCloud data: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4910.

    Thanks for the reply.

The Apple Support article is mis-named. It doesn't explain how to back up your iCloud data, it explains how to back up your data to the iCloud.

Many other cloud solutions (such as Dropbox, Box, & SkyDrive),  allow one to transfer data back and forth easily between the cloud and one's computer. Apple's restricting the usability of iCloud like this makes it much less useful. Apple gives me 2 choices, neither which is desirable:  (1) pay an extra fee to maintain my data in the iCloud or (2) discard my data. I am temporarily without an iPhone, and thus cannot get my iPhone backup out of the iCloud.

It does explain how to back up your iCloud data by exporting it.  Did you read through it?  For example, it describes how to publically share your iCloud calendar, then use the URL to download it to your computer as an .ics file, which can be imported to another calendar program such as Outlook.

If you have a friend with an iPhone who is willing to help you out, then could backup their phone to their own iCloud account, then import your backup to their phone, then create an iTunes backup of it on your computer.  Then they could restore back to their own iCloud backup to get back where they started.  You would end up with a backup of your data on your computer.
