Perhaps the cardboard box it came in?

Same problem here on my MacBook Pro 13 Late 2011 (ML 10.8.2), mainly in Mail and Safari.

    Glitches in Mail:

    Font errors:

Wierd text field borders when selected:

I've just got the logic board replaced (under warranty) because of these glitches but that didn't solve the problem.

I also tried with a clean install of Mountain Lion restoring my account with Time Machine but that didn't solve it too.

I'm thinking about trying with a clean install without restoring my account or sending it back to Apple...

I don't know... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'd advise against the clean install, realbassman. I did it and saw no improvements. And what's worse, I still haven't been able to sync my iPhone to iTunes (it recognizes it as a new iPhone and there's no documentation anywhere on how to restore just the iTunes state from backup)

    1. A clean install didn't solve these problems, because i just tried it several times...
    2. In most cases and errors, it's not the hardware, because i have it on my MBP Late '11 and rMBP Mid '12

    Only solution:

We have to wait for Mountain Lion 10.8.3. There the graphic drivers would be revised... hopefully...

Because of the fact, that i have these problems only with Mountain Lion (not with Lion), the driver could be the only solution! And it seems, that Apple is working on that!

The first beta of OS X 10.8.3 arrives as Build 12D32, and users are required to install the OS X Software Update Seed Configuration Utility in order to upgrade to the build.

Areas of focus for testing include AirPlay, AirPort, Game Center, and Graphics Drivers.

Currently, the beta status has arrived build 12D50. Please wait till this update release! And if this release did not solve your problems, run as fast as you can to your nearest Apple Store, talking to them, that this can not be!!!

As i am writing here, i have terrible Glitches here... See yourself!

    Hi All,

I have been having this problem since the second I upgraded to Mountain Lion. See attached screenshots.

I have an open case with Apple and they don't seem to have an idea. They are sending me to an Apple Service center to get the video card checked out. The problem is sporadic. WHen it happens, the only way to resolve is to reboot. When I reboot, all is fine. Then, at some point, the problem kicks in again. Usually it seems to be after the screensaver has been on for a while.

This happens in Safari and sometimes the screens saver screen itself. The most obvious is the form fields on a website form are usually surrounded by an ugly blueish graphic.

    Here are some screenshots.

Still having the problem on my Mid-2009 27" iMac.

So far, Apple has replaced the Radeon 4850 video card, and I have verified the problem just with stock RAM / Hard Disc etc.  Very, very frustrating.  My AppleCare runs out in 2 months, so i'm hoping to sort this out by then.

It seems pretty clearly a software / driver problem, for which Apple technical support is telling me does not warrant hardware replacement.. basically i'm stuck hoping Apple can fix this problem even though they can't reproduce it.

My video glitching seems worse than many posted, here are a couple screenshots indicative of what I see when it happens.. note that a reboot immeidatley fixes the problem.  If I don't reboot once this starts happening, my video will generally 'lock up' within 5-10 minutes (further leading me to believe this is some kind of graphics driver memory leak / bug).

    Jeff,

Can you clarify what you mean by your video "locking up"? Are you saying that your entire system locks up?

  • 67. Re: Graphic problems, mostly in Mail and Safari

Just video locks up.  I can still SSH into the Mac, if I happen to have music playing (iTunes etc) it continues to play.  Video is locked up though, can't move the mouse etc.  if I ssh in and try to sudo reboot, the system will never complete a reboot (even though my ssh session dies etc).  I have to 'hard reboot'.

Interesting, Jeff. I have another case opened with Apple for my system locking up. Sounds like the same issue you are having. My wireless keyboard and trackpad lock up. Initially, Apple thought it was a bluetooth issue, but even if I plug in a USB keyboard, it still doesn't work. I never thought that both issues could be related. Is this basically what you are experiencing?

Incidentally, I'm on a MacPro from November, 2010. I believe they were updated in July of that year.

I'm loath to speculate if our issues are the same, but the symptoms appear to be.  My issue started literally the firsst time I booted 10.8, and if I boot a (different drive) on 10.7 the issue goes away completely.

Clearly something in 10.8 is broken in terms of video drivers on my 27" iMac w/Radeon 4850.

Updating to 10.8.3 seems to have solved the graphic glitches for me. Please share your experiences.

I also updated to 10.8.3 but it didn's solve the Problem on my 2011 Macbook Air.

Everything is fine until the CPU temperature reaches around 80 °C, then the glitches are occuring until the temp goes down again..

If the glitches come and go with the rise and fall of temperature, you should consider taking it to the Apple Store as it may be a hardware problem.

Can anyone confirm if the issue has been addressed by Apple in the 10.8.3 update?

I still get small glitches in mail.app using 10.8.3
