Mar 15, 2013 8:15 AM in response to notvgby fruhulda,Have you read the article on the provided link? There is an answer there. Or do a search in this forum for slow AppleWorks. It has been discussed many times.

Mar 15, 2013 9:43 AM in response to notvgby Peggy,You have run into the most complained about bug in AppleWorks 6 - known as the "Recent Items bug" - & has been around since AppleWorks 6 was released in March, 2000. Take a look at these user tips by Dale Gillard - AppleWorks slow? Spinning ball appears? and Recent items not visible/updated.

Mar 15, 2013 6:06 PM in response to Peggyby notvg,Peggy,
I followed your directions, found three autosaves when typed it in and took them to the trash.
Unfortunately, my wheel is still there. There was so much data in recent items, that I imagine
they are adding to the problem. Can I just drag some to trash after opening each? They have
a little arrow on the left.
Thanks for our help

Mar 16, 2013 12:39 AM in response to notvgby fruhulda,Don't open the recent Items as it will add to the recent item folder. Just delete them or most of except maybe the 4-5 last opened ones. You probably need to do the maintenance while AW is quitted.
Small arrow to the left means the icon is an alias for the original document.
