Hi,

Latest version of Garageband, no additional purchased content.

When I click on an instrument that isn't currently installed (having a small right-facing arrow adjacent to it), I receive the following message:

Choosing to "Download now" causes Software Update to open and reveal the update to 10.8.3… and that's it.  No instruments or loops begin to download.

I suppose the first thing that puzzles me is that I'm sure I went through this process before, using the Admin account, where I chose to share the downloaded content with all users.  This still appears to be the case: my Admin's Application Support > Garageband folder is 1.48GB in size, whilst the Audio > Apple Loops folder is 350MB in size.  Both my Admin user and Standard user have access to the same instruments in Garagband.  So, what are these additional Loops and Instruments?

The second thing is: why am I re-directed to the update for 10.8.3?  It seems unlikely that new Loops are included with it.  I'd install it right now, but I'm waiting to see if there are any bug reports over the next couple of weeks.  So, is there any way I can get past this strange hurdle and download the missing content?

The AppStore may be showing an old page. Try the command "Store > Reload Page" or ⌘R to reload the page.

Where are you looking for the GarageBand installation? It should be installed in the System Library  /Library/Application Support and /Library/Audio, not in the User Library  /Users/your admin name/Application Suppart , if installed for all users.

The "Updates" panel shows all pending Updates that are waiting, if you have enabled to check for updates automatically. It is highly recommended to install MacOS X updates immediately, if only the third number of the version number has changed. These updates contain important bugfixes and security updates.

Nope, that's not what's happening here.  Reloading produces no new results.  Additionally, I'm not sure why Software Update is involved at all: it had nothing to do with the original 1.4GB of content I downloaded, of that I'm confident.  Garageband had its own download process for this.

    What is your GarageBand version?

All GarageBand '11 updates additional contents downloads will be redirected to the AppStore and appear in the Updates section for the GarageBand '11 installations that came from the AppStore or preinstalled on the Mac - at least that has happenend on all my new Macs. For the download to appear there, three things were important:

    • To be signed into the AppStore with the AppleID that had been used to accept or purchase the iLife applications.
    • GaargeBand must have been installed in the Applications Folder and not have been moved.
    • And to be able to install it in the System Library I had to be signed in as an admin.

    Regards

    Léonie
