Yeah.. sure.. blame it on 'Flash' *sigh*

I have 2 iMacs that display the same problem, one at home and one at work. This problem DID NOT EXIST until I updated my OS to Mountain Lion. Updated both computers and the same problem has been going on ever since... I did not do any other changes to my software OR hardware setup. However, after I noticed this was a problem I updated ALL of my other software with no luck whatsoever.

I think we cannot rule out this is an OS problem, or at least I can't.

    btw:

Tried killing flash, the problem persists. Thanks anyway.

    Third party software conflict.

Recently started having the same problem with disappearing mouse cursor. Running OSX 10.8.2 on a Mac Pro Early-2009 model (MacPro4,1). It happens running any app (ie. doesn't seem app related) -- most commonly Chrome and Firefox browser. Running a wired Mac "Chiclet" keyboard and Microsoft Comfort 3000 mouse through a IOGear MiniView DVI 4 Port KVM.

The keyboard, mouse, KVM setup has been working flawlessly for years. My most recent hardware update is migrating a few months ago from a MacPro 2006 (MacPro1,1) model to the current MacPro hardware.

If I unplug the mouse from the KVM and plug it back in, the cursor immediately returns.

Try just pressing ESCAPE. That gets the cursor back again for me.

Do you notice the contents of the current window moving slightly to the right, then back again when (if) the cursor re-appears? That happens to me.

I've been living with this problem for some time and have tried various recommendations to try to solve it, but to no avail.  I did discover a convenient way to get my cursor back pretty easy, easier than the random clicks and command+clicks I've been doing.

I use my trackpad on my MacBook Pro and I have multi-touch gestures enabled.  I also use Spaces with Dashboard turned off. When working in my primary desktop (ie Space 1) and my cursor disappears I've found that using the three fingers dragged from left to right gesture bounces my desktop and my cursor reappears.  Normally this gesture would switch to the Dashboard widgets screen, but it's something I rarely use so just turned off.

Of course if I'm not in Space 1 or I decide to activate Dashboard Widgets then this won't work, but for now in my situation this will let me limp along until the root problem is solved.

I (and many others) have had this problem for over two years and two operating systems. I do not think it will ever be solved.

Somehow we have to light a fire under Apple's ***. This can't be that difficult to fix. If they can't find the bug they can put in a check to turn on the cursor if it is disabled. It's hard to get the attention of a giant bureaucracy like Apple and obviously they are not paying attention.

Well... I had the problem with the disappearing cursor - happened in Photoshop CS 6 and in Safari (particularly when viewing online/streaming video content).

Back in late January (or early February), it was suggested that I manually upate my Java installation and the disappearing cursor issue went away.

Yesterday, Software Update prompted me to update my Java installation... so I did.  Now the disappearing cursor has returned.

Me also, but the cursor still misbehaves.

Having accepted the conditions for the license I try to download:

    Mac OS X x64143.78 MB  http://www.oracle.com/ocom/groups/public/@otn/documents/digitalasset/115899.gif jdk-7u17-macosx-x64.dmg

but it tells me to accept the license conditions again. For someone like me, who is not a computer techie, this is not a comfortable start.

== What advice can you please give me now?

    If I need to download:

    Mac OS X12.8 MB  http://www.oracle.com/ocom/groups/public/@otn/documents/digitalasset/115899.gif jdk-7u17-macosx-x86_64-demos.tar.gz

== What are these strange files? Do they work with my OS10.8.2 I cannot risk messing my system up.

== What special software do I need to open them?

== What will they do and what must I do after downloading and running them?

    Thanks for any further help.

I have this problem too. I have had for about two years. I always thought it had something to do with my Wacom Bamboo tablet. I have now upgraded to Intuos 5 and I am STILL having the problem. It is so frustrating

I did - and a short while later, Software Update popped up wanting me to install "Java for OS X 2-13-002 1.0" -

Java for OS X 2-13-002 delivers improved security, reliability, and compatibility by updating Java SE 6 to 1.6.0_43

    Ugh...

I really don't understand why Software Update "wants" me to DOWNGRADE Java versions...

Well, I just did a Software Update for 10.8.3 in hopes this issue would be fixed.  It did not fix it.
