Q: Problems with office 2008 and mountain lion

Hi, just got a new macbook pro with mountain lion, migrated everything from the old macbook - great.  There are two "sides" to the computer - mine and my wife has her side.

On my side Office  2008 works well, no problems.

On wife side, I think she pressed the "get updates" button - and now there are problems.

When you try to open, say word, from the dock, it goes straight to Set up Assistant, Customer Experience Improvement Program window.  Pressing the "continue' button takes you "get Started" screen with "learn more" and "register" options.  If you take the register option the browser opens and you are taken to Microsoft, where there is a statement that says you no longer need to register on line, and information relating to office and office 2011.

Choosing the "finish" button opens the automated Office Up-dater, which checks for updates, and logically, tells you  you have the latest update.  The only way out of the auto updater is to quit it.

Quitting the updater returns you to the normal mac finder window - no word operating........double click on word to open, and the process goes on again.

I have checked the user settings for her, they seem fine; I remaimed the "microsoft office setup assistant" and tried to run word.  Word gives you the error message saying that setup cannot be completed because setup assistance cannot be found, and suggests running install again.

All this, yet the same word works instantly on my side of the mac???

Any sugestions please??? Help would be greatly appreciated.
