    Hello guys

i just wanted to share my experience with you

after updating to 6.1.2 like many of you i started having battery draining, a full charge would last like 5 hrs tops, i tried many times to restore via itunes as new iphone but the problem remained the same

today i restored the phone as new iphone from the reset option on the iphone, didnt use icloud as my backup & used another mailing app besides the regular iphone app & i've been on 100% full charge for almost 5 hrs now after sending a couple of msgs & making a 5 min phone call but i havent downloaded many apps still just 4 till now

hopefully this helps any of you out there although its irritating cause i lost all my apps, contacts etc.

I was finally able to fix this on my phone by totally removing all of my email accounts and then adding them back.  I did this 3 days ago and haven't had to charge my phone since.

That is reasonable usage. I'm happy it is fixed for you.

Cellular Data should be on unless you are using too much data and it is costing you extra money. If you have WiFi access the phone will automatically use it instead of cellular data. And having cellular data off can actually increase battery drain, because some applications will try to use it and keep retrying when it is off, thus putting a larger drain on the battery.

For iCloud, if you take a lot of pictures Photo Stream will use a lot of data (and power). I leave mine off, and transfer photos to my computer via cable every few days.

Documents/Data is a useful feature if you are using iCloud document tools; if you are not it really doesn't matter whether it is on or off.

If you have a large enough data plan leave iCloud cellular on. It is very convenient to create or edit a calendar event on your computer and have it appear immediately on your phone (and vice versa). And it doesn't use much power.

I turn off cellular data in Mexico because I don't have unlimited data (4 GB shared with my wife). Interesting take on how apps will still attempt to run and drain the battery.

@Lawrence...I get about 7 hours usage on wifi only, just browsing on safari and a few emails. Some music and some iBooks in between. Battery then runs down from 100 pcnt to 0 pcnt. I'm in a no service area so zero calls.

Is this normal or should I aspire to something better on my 4S?

That sounds normal. If you have no service the phone will use power trying to connect, unless you turn on Airplane mode. You can turn Airplane Mode On, the turn WiFi back on (and BlueTooth if you want).

Hey thanks. I turned on Airplane mode and then my wifi switched off. I turned it back on and in the Settings app it shows all 3 bars but in the staus bar there is no wifi icon next to the airplane icon. I have also been disconnected from the Internet. I have tried rebooting and also reset. But cannot regain the wifi icon now. What am I doing wrong?

I don't know. It works on my phone.

One week after installing a Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 patch mentioned in KB 967046, we had an iPhone 4S running iOS 6.1.2 connect to our Exchange Server 47,600 times in a single day's log.  The user's battery diminished from 100% to 65% the next morning between the time that she got up and her arrival at the office just after 8:00 AM.  Apple ran remote diagnostics on the runaway iPhone for an hour on Friday.  Presumably they'll be able to see every connection attempt and what triggered it.  No word back from Apple yet on what they found.

    * I'm well aware that there are a great many people reporting problems on this thread who are not connecting to any version of Microsoft Exchange.  This reply is only for the handful who may be focusing on Exchange problems.

@r.a.parks:  I'll be interested in what Apple has to say to you.  I have an Exchange email account (Exchange 2010 server).  I have tried all the solutions offered in this thread and nothing has worked.  Only when I have the account set to fetch does the battery retain any life.  If I have it set to push, it drains within hours.
