Q: Windows 8 already installed, can I only update Bootcamp drivers or must I reinstall?

If i already installed Windows 8 on the previous Bootcamp version, do I need to reinstall now with Bootcamp 5 to make trackpad, etc work? Or can I simply update the drivers within Windows 8? If I can simply just update the drivers, can someone please explain that process?W

Go to Boot Camp in OSX, download the new Suport Software to a flash drive, reboot to Windows and install the software.

If your installation is working I advise leaving it alone.

You can update the Boot Camp drivers. To install them, first start in OS X (holding the X key while your Mac is starting) and download the Boot Camp 5 drivers > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638 Then, you can follow the steps of that site to install them. Make sure that your Mac is compatible with Windows 8; you can see the requirements in the right side of that site. If your Mac isn't compatible, you can't install the Boot Camp drivers for Windows 8 on the Mac

Thanks for your advice. I've done what's said above, but when I click on the setup.exe in the Bootcamp folder of the USB stick, I get a Windows 8 popup (fullscreen) that says "This app can't run on your PC. To find a different version for your PC, check with the software publisher."

    Any thoughts?

FYI, I'm using a late 2010 MBP running the latest version of OS X Mountain Lion.

Is it neccessary that I have it on the USB stick to install? Or can I just install from the desktop?

I have a late 2011 Mac Pro tower running Windows 8 and Boot Camp 4. I have had Windows 8 ever since it came out, that means that I upgraded to Windows 8 with the last version of Boot Camp 4 (with no issues BTW). Now there is Boot Camp 5,  and I want to upgrade my Mac Pro to Boot Camp 5. After running the setup from the USB drive, the installer of version 5 tells me that I need Windows 7 to install Boot Camp 5. I already have installed Windows 8, don't want to re install Win 7.

How can I upgrade to Boot Camp 5 from Windows 8 in my Mac Pro without going back to Win 7 or by formatting my drive?

    Any help would be appreciated.

You can install from the Windows desktop.

This is what I get when trying to install from the USB Drive...

Remember, already running Windows 8, but with Boot Camp 4.

On the evidence here you have the wrong version of the Boot Camp drivers?

Boot Camp 5.0.5033 is for Win 8 64bit, is this what you are using (download it here)

There is a sheet that will tell you which version of Boot Camp does what (here)

Verify and if needed download the version you need.

I will also repeat my earlier advice, If your installation is currently working, don't fix it.
