The I/O error often shows a hard disk problem, so you need a new HDD. HDDs are fragile; they have mechanical parts that can get damaged easily if you drop the Mac, and this is your case.
If you don't want to spend a lot of money with a new one, you can buy a hard disk and install the hard disk yourself if you want. You can find a lot of hard disks on OWC > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/
