Q: Do photos on your phone get uploaded twice if already on your photo Stream on your computer?

I use photo stream on all my devices and understand that they eventually get deleted off my iPhone and iPad after 1000 photos.  The photo stream on my computer remains.  All good.

Now, if I plug in my phone and import all my photos that have been taken on my phone and are also in photo stream, does iPhotos import them AND keep another copy in photo stream?  Is there duplication?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

It may be a duplication, but note that photos which appear on Photo Stream are on iCloud, not on the Mac, so they aren't duplicated on your hard disk. Anyway, photos uploaded to Photo Stream are deleted 30 days after uploading them, so sooner or later, they will be deleted from your iCloud

my understanding was that they are deleted from the cloud after 30days or 1000 photos BUT stay in your iPhotos library on your Mac OS as a monthly event...

mende1, the PhotoStream is mirrored in your User Library,

    in ~/Application Support/iLifeAssetManagement

    for example: /Users/your home folder/Library/Application Support/iLifeAssetManagement/assets/pub/jOkf3hM0TnaKEBwW70oY0A.jpg

MacOS X keeps this local working copy for syncing with iCloud and off line access, so you can always access the stream and add to it, even if you are currently not online.

    Canozzie11,

These images will be deleted however, if you exceed the limit of 1000 photos, or after a month.

BUT stay in your iPhotos library on your Mac OS as a monthly event...

They will stay, if you have iPhoto set to automatic import into a monthly event, or if you imported them manually by dragging from the stream to an event.

How are your settings in the iPhoto Preferences > Photo Stream? Have you enabled automatic import?

All items checked in my Photo Stream iPhoto Preferences.  I believe that is the default setting if you turn Photo Stream "ON".

So they do STAY in iPhotos as an event, correct?

A seperate question...Do my photos imported into my Mac from a camera get added to the photo stream?  Or is it only photos take with my Apple Devices (iPhone and iPad).

Yes, photos in your events stay, unless you delete them.

Any photo that you import into iPhoto on your mac will be added to "My Photo Stream", if you have "Automatic Upload" set. Check for yourself. Import a photo to iPhoto and view your Photo stream. after some time you shoud see the photo appear.

If you do not want to upload all photos and disable automatic upload, you can share photos manually to the photo stream.
