control-click on your stereo ouput fader (or your master fader), and select Create Arrange Track. Then set the arrange in automation view by hitting the A key, choose Volume as your parameter and draw in a ramp at the right spot.

I can get the mixer up but nothing seems to happen when I hit the apple click on stereo fader in logic pro 9. I'm already in the arrange window, I can't see the window that allows you to draw a ramp. Can someone walk through it again please?

Its not Apple (CMD?) click.. It is Control + Left Click...(or just Right Click if you have your Mouse / Trackpad set up to accept Right Clicks) the Output fader in the Mixer which brings up a menu from which you choose Create/Select Arrange Track...
Then you press the A key which reveals Automation and you will see the track headers change to add Automation info. In the Arrange window, click on the Output track you just created... Choose Volume in the Automation type drop down menu (if not already selected) and draw in your Automation...
