Hi, I am using Windows 8 and iPhone 4S. Recently both Windows and iTunes cannot detect my iPhone. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the latest iTunes and related software, but no use. I tried follow this article http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538 , but in doing the step "If the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is not listed", replugging the device, I still can't find Apple iPhone in Device Manager.

    For Windows:

    Enable Autoplay

    See http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1500

Uninstall all USB drivers. Connect iPhone to install Driver

    Hope it helps

I uninstalled non critical USB drivers (I didn't touch the chipset driver) and reconnected iPhone. No it still doesn't detect.

My sympton is that there is not detection sound in Windows, no battery bar screen on iPhone, no iPhone drive in Explorer, no iPhone device in device manager, no iPhone in iTunes, though the device does charge battery quietly. If I plug the cable to power outlet, there is batter bar screen on  iPhone.

Locate iTunes.exe. Run it as Administrator

    • Have you tried shutting down the computer, and leaving it powered off for at least 30 seconds, then restart it and try connecting the iPhone?

    • Try reseting the iPhone by holding down the sleep/wake and home buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignore the "Slide to Power off" screen?

    • Both of the previous steps could be done simultaneously. Shut down the computer, reset the iPhone, and then turn the computer back on.

Tried all of the above but they don't work. Still the same.

Let's hope b noir has a look at your problem. Either approach him or wait to see if per chance he stumbles onto this post.

I have tried to attract b noir's attention in that thread with similar question.

If you d like, run itunes diagnostics and paste those here may be we can get a shot at those. But if like my problem it is going to show everything fine and device disconnected, I will lose again.

I enabled iTunes in firewall but it still diagnosed as not enabled.

Tried running as administrator and turning off firewall but it still doesn't detect

Yep, first two are the reasons for not being able to connect to something like itunes store. Or install itunes correctly or bypass firewall.  But I think the real reason is number 3

"No universal Serial Bus controller found."

Like your usb drivers corrupted or something.

    Sorry for mediocre Windows knowledge...

BTW if you are at work, they could have disabled device recognition. and I would talk to your system Admin.

No I am at home using my home laptop. I will try to find USB driver related solution.

I would reinstall all motherboard drivers, as you can see you firewire is out as well, we probably can expect everything else is bad or may be bad.

My bios doesn't have option to change USB settings. I updated my bios but it is still the same.
