Ooops. My bad, misread Red Dwarf pic. That's what I get for fixating on the stupidly hidden Library folder.

    Or selec the desktop.

    Finder menu Go > Music

At last ..... this is the vital information link missing in the instructions!  I thought it must be hiding in some obscure sub menu.

My research over the last week has confirmed that there are a lot of people out there with the same problem. Does anyone know how one can approach the poster of HT1449 and suggest that these few words be added to the instructions. It would have saved me several hours research.

I have been a total Mac user for nearly 10 years now at work and play and this is the first thing for years that has caught me out.

Thanks to everyone who helped with this query. For the first time since I bought my first Mac I felt frustration with this problem like I used to when I used a Windows machine.

This should not need to be included.

It really won't work as Music is not in the Go menu (my mistake).

If you open a Finder window, you should see your user folder on the left side as Frank pointed out.

Or Go > Home as Red Dwarf pointed out.

You also should be able to Go > Go to Folder and type Music.

It worked for me..... since it enabled me to open my user folder for the first time (it is not on the left side on any of our many Macs.) Inside the user folder was the Music folder, at last!

If your User's folder is not in the Finder window sidebar, do the following:

    1. Click on the desktop to make it active.

    2. From the menubar click on Finder and select Preferences

    3. In the Preferences window click on the Sidebar icon.

    4. Ensure the box next to user shortname is ticked.

I finally found a thread that is dealing with my issue!  I still think  the Apple walkthrough HT1449 is missing some information.  After moving and consolidating your iTunes Media folder to an external HD (which I've done), the instructions say to locate your "original iTunes Media Folder" and drag it to the trash.  It also states to not move your iTunes library files.  I'm sorry, but there is no "iTunes Media Folder."

Here is a screen shot.  Am I supposed to delete all the files except the ones that have "library" in them?  What about album artwork?

It's now the iTunes Media folder inside the iTunes folder.

It ws changed from iTunes Music to iTunes Media in iTunes 10.

LIbraries updated from iTunes 9 will still have iTunes Music. New libraries will be iTunes Media.

You can simply rename it if you wish.

Are you sure about that? I'm running iTunes 10.3.1 in SL and ML and both show this. BTW, I don't buy any music from the iTunes store and only play the iTunes radio, so maybe I'm missing something.

Something is messed up as there should not be an Album Artwork folder also inside the iTunes Music folder.

What does iTunes prefs > Advanced - iTunes Media folder location show?

Looks like (at some point) it was set to /Music/iTunes/ and also /Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/.

iTunes has been known to mess it up onocassion.

If you had an iTunes folder prior to iTunes 10 (dunno specifically which version), you had an iTunes Music folder (as shown).

Simply upgrading to iTunes 10 did not change the folder names.

If you now create a new library, it will be iTunes media folder.

See Make a split library portable for tips on getting your library into "standard" form.
