Can only guess - but I had some problems like this too
I only use SD interlaced (PAL) miniDV tapes.
I needed to play a section backwards (to keep panning in correct way)
This section played very badly - till
I put it into MPEG Streamclip and changed the order the Lines was played to the other one
Normally I select Odd to play first - so most probably I set this backwards clip to Even.
Resulting movie then played as intended and NO Combing effect at all.
But why HD and AV/CHD works OK - is way over my view

There's probably a simple answer but at the moment it is as puzzling as the meaning of life.
As for iDVD, I like it much better than DVDSP.
Apart from it being easier to use I think the DVD quality is a little cleaner, with less artifacts.
OK, it isn't as customisable as DVDSP but it has more than enough capability to satisfy any normal mortals . . . . . and there's much less chance of messing things up.
