Does wi-fi work OK away from your home?
I've not tried the my ipad away from home as i wasn't really aware of the problem until my brother brought his to mine. I can't understand why my newer ipad is so inferior to a previous model? Should I as a user have to alter and change to boost my wifi signal when my brother brought his into mine for the first time and had full strength signal in all rooms and I have to stay in the same room for it to stay connected and place it directly next to it for it to find it and connect
I forgot to mention in the above post I've been using the ipad 2 in my house since January and its always been the same and my brother has been here once with his wifi was so much stronger then. One and all he did was turn on wifi and typed in the password!
It's been a problem since I got it for Christmas with the original IOS which I'm not sure what is was on but I've kept up to date with all the updates and the signal hasn't got gone weaker or stronger just stayed the same
Changing your router settings is not going to help. You must try the iPad on a public wifi network to verify the problem. After that (it should work on public wifi) try resetting Network Settings. Then go on to Reset All Settings. Finally, you could try restoring the iPad as new and doing a sync to recover your data. Be sure to copy all pix off first. If that doesn't work, make an appointment at the Genius Bar. It should still be under warranty. Document the problem and the steps you have taken (they will want you to do the restore as new) and take it to an Apple store. It will almost certainly connect to their wifi. Don't be put off. Ask for a new iPad.
Like I said, the article is a starting point. If I were you, I'd work through it completely, (and also see if performance differs on other wi-fi networks like say, hot spots) and if it doesn't get better, after the troubleshooting, and it doesn't work better on other wi-fi networks, you'd have a really good case for a warranty replacement.
Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
• Launch Settings app
• Tap on Wi-Fi
• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
If any of the above solutions work, please post back what solved your problem. It will help others with the same problem.
I will look through the link as you've suggested and hopefully it will resolve the issue, but it's abit annoying having to fix something that you've only just purchased and a previous model works perfectly
