Once you pressed the play button even if for a few seconds you have i think 48hrs to watch the film (maybe 24).
to find the downloaded film - itunes does not make this so obvious or easy, i just spent half an hr trying to find out.
here is the answer. On iPad then you look under videos - its that easy.
On a desctop or portable using iTunes then go to iTunes Store Home page. (in top menu bar there is option for Store and then select Home.
Then see option called "Library" in top right corner, click this.
Then select from the far left drop down, "Movies"
Then from the top options select "Rented"
Your movie(s) should be here.
It would be far more intuitive of Apple to show a button on the iTunes store for the movie listing that you have already selected/downloaded this movie and to play it from there as well.

this is rediculous to have to work so hard to find a rented movie
i even recieved a 3 hour notice with no meaning ful way of going to the movie via the notification
why cant this be down on a macbook pro is beyond my understanding
