What exactly have you tried? Music is just a video without the pictures.
Are you trying to add an iTunes store track? That may not be permitted.

I am trying music from my 'MUSIC' file. Music bought from itunes, audio tracks from speeches, music downloaded from cds, audio from podcast. All are in my file in apple format and are in my mac.
As I said, thanks to this community I was able to add videoo.
Thank you D.

Deborah, the music items are on you mac. have you transferred them over to the ipad yet? I don't have my ipad in front of me, but I'm pretty sure that you can select any music that is stored on the ipad to play during keynote presentations, but they must be stored in the music app of the ipad.

thanks to everyone whotook the time and tried to help.
at my local apple store we found a stupid solution but it works.
1. on my mac i play the music i want and video the screen with my ipad2.
2. this video (of a screen) is now copyable onto a keynote slide.
3 .mask this 'video of a screen' with an image of something nicer, perhaps a photo of the musician or a landscape.
otherwise, it seems that although keynote for mac supports audio, keynote for ipad does not.
try this silly method. gets the job done.

I am having the same problem and your suggestion is a good one, but you cannot exactly sinc pictures and music together using this method.

I've been following this discussion and have 2 questions and a suggestion.
Question 1: I have not found any way to select a music or sound file of any kind when putting together a Keynote presention on my iPad. Inserting a media object seens ti only allow videos and still images. I don't have a Mac so going that route won't work for me.
Suggestion: I have, however, found a way to insert audio clips. On my Windows machine I create a movie with the soundtrack of the audio clip that I want, and then load a still image into the video track, to play the same amount of time as the audio track. Save it as an MP4 movie file and transfer that (via a WiFi app) to the iPad. I can then select that "video" to play on a Keynote slide. This leads me to....
Question 2: Is there any way to have multipe videos on a single slide that you can play one at a time, in any order. it wseems when I try this, that when touch a playing video to stop it, another of the other videos stop, etc. Any way to pause a video an stay on the same slide?
