No. I also have an old MobileMe account (@me.com) on iCloud. I don't know whether messages are failing to be saved in Sent there, too, because it is a less important account and I have not paid attention. What I can say is that the me.com account on iCloud DOES consistently keep copies for offline reading (i.e. my folders are always full), but the Yahoo IMAP account consistently does NOT (my folders are often empty and must be synchronized).

This sent issue with Yahoo is really common, check the threads on this site.

I would advise you to get away from Yahoo (forward to iCloud) and look at alternatives.

That's what I did, but wouldn't ya know it, I ran into another common problem creating a secondary icloud email address for wife (so I can do the same for her). I swear, if it's not one thing, it's another. And this other one has been around for a couple of years, too. :-( But that goes in another thread.

An alias or a separate account for your wife?

Separate account. That's a separate thread.

And here is the solution I found to create an icloud.com email address for my wife's iCloud account:

so I'm happy again ... until the next problem comes along. ;-)

I only noticed this last week with my icloud account. When sending from iphone and ipad everything fine, but sending from imac (OS X 10.8.2 last week, 10.8.3 since yesterday) sometimes sent items disappear. The mail client is 6.3. Yesterday's upgrade didn't change anything. When the items don't appear, they don't appear on the IOS devices either, nor on the web icloud version. It could have happened before that but it's only last week I needed to check something and noticed.

However, I've managed to get it working again. I went into Mailbox Behaviors on the imac, unchecked 'Store sent messages on the server', sent a test mail, then checked 'Store sent messages on the server' again and sent another test mail and it's now storing sent items again like it should do. Hopefully this will now carry on working, but at least if it breaks again I can reset it this way.

    Cheers

I'm having this exact same issue.  I use Mail.app to access my gmail via my Mac.  What I've noticed is when I into my gmail sent items via the web interface some of the sent items are labeled 'Sent Messages' and some have no label whatsoever.  The items without the 'Sent Messages' label do NOT appear in my Mail.app on the desktop.

When I apply the 'Sent Messages' label to the unlabeled items in gmail, they then appear in my Mail.app. Worth noting that I only ever send/receive from Mail.app or an iOS device and never access gmail via the web.  For some reason only ~80-90% of the mail I send from Mail.app shows up with the label 'Sent Messages'.  Just curious if the others having this problem with gmail are seeing the same this with the labels....if so this is an issue with how gmail 'sees' (or how Mail.app identifies) sent items coming from Mail.app.

I just had this happen. Sent an email from my .mac/icloud account (IMAP) via Mail application, just went to check if I'd put something in that I meant to but it wasn't in the Sent box. Did a search of all mailboxes and looked online at iCloud and it was nowhere to be found. It was received OK but I don't have any record that I sent it. I don't have any other devices set up for email, so it's not related to anything else accessing iCloud.

Now, this wasn't anything important but suppose it was and I needed to find the email. What then? I don't know if it has happened earlier as I don't check every email after I've sent it! Sometimes if I've saved an email before sending it stays in the Drafts box even after I've sent it so this was doubly annoying.

Mail is version 5.3 on Mac OSX 10.7.5

I've recently also been getting the 'extra' Junk folder problem I've seen mentioned elsewhere in this thread, where valid emails turn up in a Junk folder at the bottom, which I occasionally delete but it eventually reappears containing something that's not even marked as Junk mail. .

This just happened to me.  I lost 1 year of sent mail, all my drafts, and my inbox was also wiped.

I am using a MacBook Pro.  I do not use cloud. I do not sync any of my email with Yahoo or otherwise.

I just set up my Mac Mail to work with my new server.  Even though I backed up my mail, I cannot find these sent items.

I have deleted all the mailboxes that MAC set up, and only use the inbox.

So I am still looking maybe the lost sent items are still on this computer somewhere.

I am using Macbookpro, with the newest updates OX ver. 10.8.3 and Mail 6.3.

My Google IMAP Sent box have been emty for hours today. I could send from the account but no mails was showing in the sent box. All old Sent mails was also gone and counter showed zero sent mail from that account. However, they where present at the browser version of my Gmail account.

What was really strange was that after some hours the suddenly appeared, now showing +2000 sent mails on that acount again. Very strange indeed.!

I am so glad to have found this forum!  I sent a very important email today through Mac Mail and thought I was going crazy because I could not find it ANYWHERE in the sent mailbox.  I spent close to an hour on the phone with Mac support trying to figure this out.  The email got to it's destination but there is no record of it anywhere in my sent box.  I had attached 3 pdf files to the email so I am wondering if that might have had something to do with it?  Not sure if my Mac Mail has been doing this before: the reason why I went back to check was my computer was in sleep mode and when I opened it up, I heard the charachteristic "swoosh" sound when mail gets sent.  I thought that was weird because I had not sent anything for 3-4 hours, but when I checked the sent box, the last email I had sent several hours prior was no where to be found.  It still is not there, but emails that I have sent since are in the sent box.  Go figure...

Is there a fix for this?  This is a bit disturbing and really freaked me out.

The email I sent which arrived at its destination, but I can't find anywhere in any mailbox on or off line, didn't have any attachments, only links to various pages. Yes, worrying that this could be happening on and off all the time and you only find out by chance.

I came to this forum first but afterwards sent a report to Apple via Feedback http://www.apple.com/feedback/icloud.html

If enough people send feedback via this link then maybe Apple will realise it's a widespread problem!

The current Mail software is defective through and through - simple as that. Apple tech support would have you believe the problem lies with software incompatibilities and the like but the truth is, in their eagerness to fix something that wasn't broken, they've issued a poorly conceived software programme that is full of glitches. I managed to rememedy the problem of sent emails not saving by simply unchecking the 'save to server' option in preferences. This might not be an option for some people but for me it worked.

If I thought that was the end of my problems I was sadly mistaken. Deleted emails sporadically reappear, emails I have previously read reappear as new emails a few minutes later and at least three times a week Mail won't shut down when I manually delete the contents of my trash folder and so I have to 'Force Quit'.

The old emac I had before I bought my iMac was, in terms of reliability, ten times the machine this is. I've been using Macs since the days of the Classic and this is the first time I can honestly say I've been disappointed with one of their products (and Apple's response to its shortcomings). It seems the needs of dedicated Mac users have been pushed to one side in an effort to persuade the IPod/IPad converts to go all the way and switch from PCs to Mac desktops.

Over 24 pages on this thread plus I've read a couple others. As someone else has described the problem is this and needs to be addressed

    1) Random emails don't save to sent folder (neither on macbook or on icloud) and there is no trace of them anywhere on computer

    2) The random non-saved sent emails later prove to have been received by the addressee even though not copied to sent folder

    3) The woosh sound is slow / delayed  for those occurrences where the sent email does not save

    4) Non-saved sent emails may be any size, and may or may not have attachments

Any other mail problems other than the above usually can be traced to some kind of user error
