iPhone 5 wifi issues

    As many as you know I have had a replacement iPhone 5 for about 2 months. As a rule, it connects, but occasionally, the last 2 weeks or so, I have to shut off the WiFi and turn it back on for my WiFi to work. So, even a "working" iPhone 5 isn't really working as it should. And before anyone says, that's normal, it wasn't normal for my old 3g and 3gs. I'm just hoping it doesn't happen more often. Like others, I'm less apt to buy another iPhone.

    SpeedTest 3.0, just out provides very different results for me. Could just be a good day for wifi, but all speeds are faster, and it finally shows speeds over 25-ish. Got 45 a few times.

    So, after months of dealing with ATT and Apple:  Nothing.  Apple Executive Offices blames "third party apps", in my 19-yr old daughter's case, Instagram and Snapchat.  They completely ignore the fact that she had used these apps BEFORE iOS6 upgrade with NO OVERAGES.  Now every month, there are overages.  Massive amounts of "internet/Media Net-SENT" throughout the day and around midnight.

     

    Not their problem.

     

    I am so fed up.  Apple is not the company it used to be.

     

    Sprint?  Samsung?  Any suggestions?

     

    keep complaining to the FCC

    I'm not going to buy "I" anything from Apple anymore. I'll stick with the MacBook but as far as iPad goes, dollar for dollar droid is better. The next Nexus 7 will kill the mini 2 and be cheaper, just as it was before.

     

    The iPhone WiFi problem bugs the **** out of me. I have overspent on Apple for too long and that is coming to an end. I feel Apple will feel the pinch soon, as I imagine I'm not the only one. They're not competitive anymore at their higher price point. Better stuff is coming out at 1/2 the price. Look at their stock price. I think that says it all. Sad really. I used to be a fan boy, not anymore. Galaxy s4 it is

     

    I went to their "genius" bar to get this phone replaced on the hopes it would be fixed. There were 50 employees walking around. 50! in one little store. Imagine the cost of all those people for such a store. Imagine the sales they need to support it. Imagine the premium in product pricing that is needed to sustain it. When Jobs left last time Apple went to ****. When he came back Apple came back with a vengence. I see the same thing happening again although we all know, unfortunately, Jobs can't save Apple this time.

    I too am experiencing  Wifi connection drop issues with my iPhone5 . What I observed is that, immediately after resetting the network settings, the connection drop problem vanishes  at least for 3 - 4 hours. Then gradually the connection issue reappear  the next day every time the device is left unused.

     

    My phone is updade to IOS 6.1.3

    I have installed IOS 6.1.3 and still seeing the crappy wifi on the iPhone 5.  Other devices like Ipad, Iphone 4, 3S, PC laptop are all fine in these same locations - they are all showing strong signal and not having speed or connectivity issues at all.  On the iPhone 5, signal will vary from 1 to 3 bars without any change in location over the course of minutes. Streaming apps like YouTube, Netflix and Vimeo get really choppy if they start at all, I can't update apps from the App Store.  WiFi completely disconnects, the wifi network ID disappears, the icon just cycles between spinning and searching. Then it magically reappears and reconnects, In the meantime, it has switched over to LTE, which eats up data plan and prevents me from accessing my local resources like my Sonos system or do wifi Sync.

     

    I called Apple and they wanted me to fork out 70 bucks for Apple Care for them to troubleshoot an obvious warranty HW issue. Apple, please admit YOU have a problem and get this resolved!!!!

    Apple are willing to fix security issues (lock screen fix in IOS 6.1.3) or design issues (new podcasting app to get rid of skeuomorphism) so why cant they find some time to fix these wifi issues?? Do we have to wait until Johnny Ive is in a coffee shop somewhere outside of Cupertino and finds the slow wifi annoying before it gets fixed?

    Does anyone know what's happening when SpeedTest rushes to, say, 24Mbps, pauses for a few seconds, then drops to 2 or even 1Mbps and the counts the lower number as the download speed? Happens every time I do a test.

    i have the same issue just like you, and apple seems like don't give a sinlgle **** on it. Maybe it is the time to start some strike! let the snow roll big...  since they don't stand up and address the serious wifi issue on iPhone 5!!!

    I had something really weird to happen to my iPhone 4 the other night.  Out of the blue it would not connect to my Wi-Fi here at home.  I'm using one of Verizon's Mi-Fi things and it has been connecting just fine until the other day.  There were no updates that I had recently installed or anything...it just would not connect. Everytime I would try to, it would pop up and say "Could not connect to secure network."  I told it to forget the network and tried to reconnect that way, only to get the same error message.  I reset the network settings and tried to connect only to get the same error message.  I only have three months on my current contract, and after that I'm thinking of going with Straight Talk to save some money.  The only thing is, if I tried to get an iPhone on Straight Talk, I would have to pay over $600, of which I am not prepared to do, so, I will probably end up with some kind of Droid phone.  Anyway, since I will probably not be purchasing another iPhone, I went into my iPhone and deactivated the iCloud from it and my MacBook Pro, and now, for some reason, it has connected to the Wi-Fi.  I don't know if the iCloud had anything to do with it or not...all I know is that it is connected now. Now, I have had some other issues with this phone in that, sometimes the speakers do not work on them.  I will get a text message and the chime will not sound.  Sometimes I will start to type a text and the "ticking" from the keys will not be there.  I will look to make sure that I have the sound on and I do.  Later on in the day, I can start to type a text and guess what, the "ticking" sound from the keys is back.  So, my issues with the Wi-Fi could just be my phone, but I just wanted to throw this out there for everyone to see.

    right guys sent my iphone 5 back today, wont be getting another one, my take on this is, apple are trying to break the strangle hold on the jailbreak out there, and all the innoccent apple people are paying the price for it, thats why the wifi is not working in my mine, later peeps, and good luck getting it sorted

    Today, I helped my customer's iPhone 5 WiFi problems during on-site service by switch his router's security settings from WPA2 to WEP.

     

    The other day, I fixed another customer's iPhone WiFi issues by assigning a static IP to his iPhone 5. Every time his iPhone 5 connects to the router, it will always have the same IP.
