iPhone 5 wifi issues

    These aren't "fixes".

     

    WEP is less secure and is easily hackable. NOT A SOLUTION

     

    Putting a static IP on someone's phone is just plain bad. What if they want to get on wifi on another network with a different IP range or have an IP that someone else is leasing?

     

    These are not even workarounds as either solution is not acceptable. Sorry.

    I agree WEP is less secure. I advised my customer to get a new router as his iPhone 5 WiFi works perfectly fine with the router I brought there for testing.

     

    For static IP, he can still get on any WiFi network without problems. All I did is configuring his router to reserve and always assign a static IP to iPhone 5 based on MAC address.

    I am joining this thread as I have also been experiencing wifi problems since I got my new iPhone 5. I first thought it was my wifi (2nd generation airport extreme) so I bought a couple of new extremes (5th generation). I have an extended network and I am still experiencing the problem, especially when connected to the airport that extends the network. However everything is OK when connected to a 5 GHz network.

    So far I am hesitant to take it back to Apple. I am not sure a new one will have this wifi issue fixed, according to what I have read. I would not want to end up with is a refurb... Any good feedback on getting a replacement iPhone 5 ?

    I am having same issues with you. Everything is working fine although I am still using ios 6.1.2. Started from yesterday, out of the blue wifi connections drop in less than a minute, although I have not run any app at all. You can imagine I have to keep my phone next to me and manually click to connect to wifi to download and install ios 6.1.3. Unfortunately the issue is still there. Then I Reset Network Settings, hard reset hardware, delete all safari history and data. It seems to be slightly better, the wifi will stay for few minutes for Safari and What's app then it will disconnects! It will dropped immediately when I open YouTube and Mails. I did feedback to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html, I hope Apple will fix this asap, and please do the testing job well before release any updates!

    Wow. I just replaced the default DNS, a 192. Number, with 8.8.8.8 in the wifi network settings and now my iphone 5 is acting like my iMac. And I don't get the long pause when using SpeedTest anymore. Feels...fixed.

    After suffering with miserable wifi performance since my phone was new, I took it to the genius bar two weeks ago. I was told it had a bad wifi card. The replacement phone was no better than my original phone.

     

    After upgrading to 6.1.3 yesterday, my iPhone is working perfectly. It's about time!

     

    I'm using a Linksys EA4500 router.

    Stepped out for a bit, so LTE kicked in. Came home, and got terrible SpeetTest results. Had to Forget This Network, retype the 8.8.8.8 DNS, and was back to screaming speeds.

     

    At the VERY LEAST, Apple needs to fix this constant need to Forget This Network.

    I just got back from a 5 day trip and experienced these issues on at least a half dozen wifi networks. The poor performance and failure is so reliable that it's pointless to use the wifi.

    I finally went to an Apple store to see a genius. He was aware of the problem. He told me there were only 2 fixes: hard resetting the device-which means opening the iPhone and disconnecting the battery-and getting a new one. He talked to one the tech expert in the store and finally settled for a replacement. According to him, the iPhone CPU was the cause for the wifi problem.

     

    I asked him if the replacement would be a refurb and he told me definitely no, it would be a brand new one. However the iPhone he got me was not in a retail box, so I got suspicious. It was a smaller, white box. As I peeled off the screen protection I inspected the iPhone very closely... But it looked absolutely perfect, like a brand new.

     

    I got back home and tested my replacement iPhone 5. So far I am happy to say I have not experienced any wifi problems, unlike the previous device. I did some side by side tests with my Phone 4 and the results were similar in terms of speed. I was able to pickup signal in places I could not get wifi before with my first iPhone 5.

     

    Of course I would have to test it in other places, especially hotels since getting wifi there can sometimes be a challenge. But I am happy to say so far the replacement iPhone 5 does not have this wifi problem.So this brings me to my conclusion: I think the iPhone 5 wifi problem is a hardware issue, and more specifically CPU related-at least according to what the genius said.

    Did you have any bill of paper from iPhone. I asked you that because i wanna send my iphone to the apple store for replacing he is in warranty but i haven any paper...

    You don't need that. Just bring your iphone and they'll check the serial #. Even if you did not buy it from Apple.

    The moment you switch your Iphone on and connects to Apple Server, thats when the start of warranty begins, correct me if im wrong, though when you get a replacement phone, i dont know how they can determine, unless your copy over the same serial number OR update the replacement phone with your warranty details, who knows ?

     

    As for wiFi issues, we all know its a hardware compatability with the software in the IOS versions that drive the phone and communicate with the various WiFi devices on the market.

     

    I have the same issue, IOS 5 worked like a charm with my WAP's in the office, the moment IOS 6 came out, it was a train wreck until IOS 6.1 came out.

     

    If now connects like IOS 5, but mind you, i still think Iphone 5 is a train wreck, id much prefer my old Iphone 4S with no dramas and LEAVE IOS 5 on it .

     

    Best Iphone i ever had, id go and say better than my Iphone 5 .

    No problemo buxnaapple! I was lucky to get a genius that aknowledged the wifi problem and did not argue about the software vs hardware issue. You can always tell him my replacement fixed the issue, even though the genius I met could not guarantee it 100%. I guess it might be a CPU batch issue.

    I had the problem with my 5. Worked with AppleCare on a bunch of fixes.  None worked.  They replaced the phone on Wednesday last week.  No issues at all connecting with the new phone, so far.  Knock on wood.  They assured me it was a brand new phone, BTW.  I'm just glad it works.  I don't have time to be my own IT department.
