Q: iMac sometimes ignores left click

Hello world,
there is this issue with OS X, which gets more and more irritating:
Frequently, mouse left-clicks are ignored by my iMac 27 (latest s/w updates).

You can click as often as you like, but the clicks are ignored, until you move away, click somewhere else and then go back.
Very annoying (esp. in Safari), as it badly interrupts smooth workflow.

This happens with all kinds of programs, independent of which mouse is connected (I tried USB Logitec, wireless Magic Mouse). It happened right out of the box, even before any 3rd party mouse drivers were installed.

Amazingliy, I do not see any discussion of this ugly UI issue!
Is this just me? What is going on?

Thanks for any help!
Mark

It's fast user switching. At least in my case. I *never* have the problem after a reboot. Once the user account has been switched, the problem will not go away until I reboot again. I've been able to get it very reproducible.

God, it seems to be working. If that really solves it then I owe you a drink.

I've been struggling with this problem for a while and it really hinders workflow and increases my blood pressure.

    I had the same problem.

I did everything clean install new mouse hit the magic mouse on the wall with no help.

What helped me is to in setting accesibility uncheck the Enable access for assistive devices. A third party application was abusing up this.

I am happy with an old mouse now:)

    Regards

Well, after reading this post I pulled out my USB bluetooth adapter (which I was only using for a bluetooth keyboard), went wired and problem solved!  I don't even want to try plugging it back in to test my theory; just happy everything's working again; it was driving up the friggin wall for months now.

Thanks for the tip!  Good luck to everyone else still dealing with this.

OK, so for anyone who's experiencing this issue and is running the "Typeit4me" text correction and expansion utility in the background,TURN IT OFF.  For some reason it seemed to clear the issue right up for me.  I was hesitant (and still a little shakey) about posting this since the last time I posted what I thought was a solution turned out not to be.  But I've had no click issues for almost a week now since turning that program off which would normally be running in the background.  I'd be interested to know if this solves anyone elses left-click issue.

omg, someone said "shut down spotify" and that works for me like a charm... realy thanks guy! realy thanks!

so, dont forget to uncheck the "open at login" option on dock. for sure i double check this on spotify options, and are still turned off too... btw i turn off "Allow Spotify to be started from the web", no more annoying click problems!

    cheers!

    {{{ POSSIBLE SOLUTION }}}

I was having the same problem. Here's the solution that seems to have solved it for me:

Go to: Apple Icon > System Preferences > Mouse

Then reduce the "Double-Click-Speed" for the left mouse button.

I had mine almost all the way towards "Fast" and I slid it back to the center, and that seems to have done the trick. We'll see..

Same  problem, random left clicks, I read this thread, did all the reboots, clean install, accessibility stuff, etc., to no avail.

Some people got rid of spotify, and it solved the problem, but I don't have spotify, but did recently add the safari exstension curiyo, uninstalled it an problem solved .

Thank you!  This solved my problem.  I must have accidently changed the mouse speed button while holding my mouse.
